NCarmean18ParticipantWhat’s up, guys? I have been doing a lot of thinking lately, and wouldn’t it be really nice if 2K could develop a college basketball franchise like they had done in years past? I love college basketball to the extent that I love the NBA, and I have really missed playing college basketball games.
Well, EA’s partnership with the NCAA has recently ended, and I think this could lead to the ultimate triump in NCAA college basketball video games, an NCAA College Hoops 2K franchise rebirth.
I know this franchise would be a great success simply because of how big the NBA 2K franchise has been for the basketball gaming community. NBA 2K has really overshadowed NBA Live, and I believe that this year will be no exception.
Having 2K develop a college basketball game is a good idea for many reasons, but it is a great idea for two reasons:
1.) 2K Draft Classes – On the Xbox community, I have yet to discover a good and accurate draft class for NBA 2K12. There was a guy I followed religiously throughout his postings on NBA 2K11, but he did not make a return for the next game in the franchise and I found myself going through tons of draft classes, only to be disappointed by poster’s lack of knowledge behind a players personal attributes and even position.
It was sickening trying to find the perfect draft class for NBA 2K12, because on the Xbox 360 version, it was seemingly impossible. However, having a NCAA college game has a totally different standard.
Throughout the college season, 2K can update and tweak any attributes for NBA prospects in the game. They can determine based on a players potential, overall, and current statistics whether or not they will enter the upcoming NBA Draft or whether or not they will stay in school for another year.
These ideas could be built upon through a dynasty mode within the game. After the regular season, conference tournaments, and the NCAA tournaments are finished, that is the time whenever prospects can declare for the NBA Draft, or return to school for another year. After each year is progressed through and you have the list of prospects who will declare themselves eligible for the NBA Draft, you can save the draft class and import it into your own NBA 2K share file.
This idea gives you the flexability to go through 10-20 years of a college basketball dynasty, play with certain guys, have some fun, and then import them into the NBA game during an association mode, so you will always have new players to play with, and it will really shake up the basketball franchise.
2.) My Player: High School/College – This idea to me is the best idea I could think of. Creating your player in high school, and have him work his way from playing in a High School division in the college basketball game to playing in the NBA in the current NBA 2K installment.
What you would do is create your my player the typical way you would in NBA 2K12, for example. You would edit everything from the way he is built, to the accessories he wears, and then to the colleges he would like to be recruited by. You would give the NCAA your top 5 recommendations, and then you would begin your high school career.
Through High School, you would play 20 regular season games, and then play through a playoff format. Throughout this process, teams who have been scouting you will rate you based off of both performance and potential.
Once you finish High School, you will be offered scolarships from colleges who took interest in your performance during your High School career. After this happens, you simply commit to the college you would like to attend, and then your college career starts.
You will have a lot of flexibility within your college career. You get to choose how early you would like to become a professional basketball player. Now, this is where it gets interesting. You have to wait until after each season’s tournament (just like in dynasty mode) before declaring for either the NBA Draft or to attend college for another year. If you decide to declare for the draft, you will be drafted upon potential and workouts because your skills and stats have yet to be fully developed. If you wait to be drafted until your junior or senior year, your stats and game will be polished, and you will be drafted based upon production, and not necessarily potential.
This will be a unique process in transfering your player from college to the NBA. Once you declare for the draft, your my player career on the college franchise will end and you will begin on NBA 2K. You will have the option to work out for any teams that request you, interview with them, and then partiscipate in drills at the NBA Draft Combine, held in Chicago Illinois. Then, based upon your college career, whether it’s potential or production, then your workouts, interviews, and drills, you will be invited to New York to the Draft so you can watch yourself become an NBA player.
These two are just two generic examples of how I’d like the game to be made. They are pretty solid ideas in my opinion, and 2K would definitely benefit from the profits this game could produce. There are plenty of college basketball fans out there who would like to see another installment of 2K college ball, and I am one of them.
I appreciate any of you who took the time out of your busy schedules to read my article, and I would really appreciate and feedback and ideas that would be beneficial in a game such as this one. Thank you.

mattmancalcagnoParticipantThis game would be insane, ive never played a 2k college game and have instead been stuck with ncaa 08… lol. I love the create a player mode you mention especcially the fact that you work your way through high school ball i dont think a game has taken that perspective yet. I would kill for this game, great post!
0- Posted on: Sun, 07/15/2012 - 5:43am #696268
NCarmean18ParticipantThanks! It means a lot to hear that, and it also means a lot that you took the time to read through the entire post, and give your opinions on my ideas.
I think that a my player is a must for a college basketball game, especially if it’s developed by 2K. I don’t like the idea of just creating a player and jumping right in to a college of your choice. Where’s the fun and excitement behind that? Exactly, there isn’t any.
To me, starting off as a senior in High School is the best idea for this game. You could choose the High School that you go to/went to/plan on going to, and then change their uniforms and colors to match or represent who they are in real life. Play a season in High School, go through the State playoffs, and then get recruited by colleges who took an interest into your playing style. It’s unique, and it’s a fun idea. I would buy the guy based on that lone feature itself.

GrovesinternationalParticipantThey need to include things like wingspan, maturity/behaviour, assertiveness, leadership and Basketball IQ/positioning/decision making to players to give greater depth to players and allow more variety. This isn’t related to the college basketball idea of yours but really needs to be included first as its simpler, cheaper and would enhance the game in a different way.
For example, it would be possible to create a talented, high potential player with low assertiveness such as Perry Jones III or a very smart basketball player who may lack ideal athleticism and length. it’s difficult to do this currently with the lack of options dedicated to certain player types (Off/Def Awareness, consistency and clutch don’t really count as making a player high IQ on their own)
Maturity should affect off-court and on court behaviour (Gilbert Arenas gun slinging, Andre Blatch andre blatching, Stephon Marbury breaking down, Demarcus Cousins whinging, Metta World Peace just being strange) and maybe create high risk picks for teams with players being prone to suspensions or not reaching their potential.
Leadership stat should be used for players leading teams in game by improving chemistry, but also, veterans with high leadership should help young players development (to a greater extent if they play the same position) for example a guy like nash or jason kidd or derrick fisher mentoring Goran Dragic, Rodrigue Beaubois, Russell Westbrook respectively.

McDunkinAnd also include a "He Got Game" type recruiting visits option

GrovesinternationalParticipanthaving the potential vs production dilemma in the draft will bring excitement and a player being drafted higher than expected because "he know’s how to win" or "he’s a proven winner" would be interesting. players that are in the 2k college game but weren’t drafted and finish their senior year could also be used to fill out the free agent list in the NBA game. all around a good idea that they should bring back. the high school bit is good too, makes more of a challenge

NCarmean18ParticipantYour additions were fabulous ideas, and I support them 100%. Not only would they be key additions for a new and improved college basketball game, but they would be awesome additions to NBA 2K as well.
Wingspans play a vital role in prospect scouting, as players with larger wingspans tend to get looked at as potential shot blockers, or guys who can shoot over the top of defenses and finish above the rim.
Behavior is another thing I would like inserted, especially into the college game. Maturity is a problem for a lot of college athletes, and in reality they tend to take a dip during Draft Night. For example, a guy like Jereme Richmond from Illinois, he had the potential to be a lottery pick, but with a raw offensive game, immaturity, and behavioral issues, he went undrafted during the 2011 NBA Draft, even though his ceiling was much higher than many prospects on the board.
Assertiveness qualities would be a nice addition too, but of these four, it is my least desired attribute.
Finally, leadership. This is probably one of the most important qualities when selecting a potential prospect. Can he lead his team to be successful in the future. Can he turn out to be a guy like Kevin Durant or LeBron James? Or will he end up like a guy such as Michael Beasley or O.J. Mayo? Also, I like this addition to the pro game as well. Leadership roles go far beyond playing on the court. Sure, being a superstar and leading your team is a great quality, but there is so much more behind being a leader. For instance, veteran leadership is vital on teams, especially for the younger players. These are the guys who go out and provide somebody to look up to, and somebody to depend on. These guys are great for the locker room, and provide as great role models for young upincoming players.
Guys like Derek Fisher are a perfect example of this. He’s a Class-A teammate even though his basketball skills are limited at the age of 37. This would serve as a very popular asset in a basketball game.

NCarmean18ParticipantI don’t like giving myself more credit than deserved, but I thought the production vs. potential idea was one of the better ones I had presented in the forum. This is a dilemma in prospect scouting ALL the time. Who do you take? Do you take the guy who has proved his could do it, or do you take the guy who hasn’t proved nearly as much as the other guy, but has the potential to go far and above the other guy?
These problems are always an issue, but in a basketball video game franchise, it would add realism and excitement to it! For example, Portland was trying to decide whether to take North Carolina center Tyler Zeller or Illinois center Meyers Leonard.
Zeller, a junior, had a very good college career. He improved every year, and he showed his was a capable winner who could put up nice numbers for a Hall of Fame coach in Roy Williams. Zeller was more polished one the offensive side of the ball than Meyers Leonard.
Leonard was a different story. He wasn’t always consistant at Illinois, partly because of a disruptive coaching staff and part because they lacked a true point guard who could feed him the ball. However, even though Leonard struggled at times, he had more potential and more upside than Tyler Zeller, which led Portland to draft him over Zeller. While Zeller could come in and make an immediate impact, Leonard seems to be a guy who could be a star center a few years down the road.

HobbyOGParticipantGreat idea..I like the High School idea, EA Sports College football does it..And I never have problems with 2k draft classes but then again I play on PS3 and not Xbox.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/15/2012 - 6:49am #696280
lakanoParticipantWe need to show 2K that making another college hoops game will be profitable b/c at the end of the the only thing that matters is the profit margin… If you guys are serious someone should make a Facebook or twitter page to show all the potential buyers 2K is missing out on. If enough buzz is generated it would be hard for 2K Sports to deny the masses plus it means $$ for them as they would be the only game in the market.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/15/2012 - 6:55am #696281
NCarmean18ParticipantThe High School idea just kind of came to me. I play NCAA College Football and Madden, but I didn’t link the idea of college from an EA developed game. I just figured that the best way for the game to be both fun and exciting is to start from High School and work your way up. That way, you have a chance at multiple schools instead of just selecting one and starting in college right away.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/15/2012 - 6:58am #696283
joecheck88ParticipantWingspan or standing reach I think would be a good addition as was mentioned. I like the my player HS idea. I think I would start in junior year though. Or maybe a whole HS career. Like have drills and games to match each season. Like you get 5 drills and games in your freshman season to improve, 10 your sophomore year, 15 junior and 20 senior and colleges can watch your progress through 4 years.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/15/2012 - 6:58am #696282
JeffreyhardenParticipantThis would be a very great game I use to play the old college basketball games for 2k especially the one with Greg Oden on the cover that game had me calling in to work almost lol. But after that season I believe that 2k sports sold all rights for college basketball games to EA Sports (like they did for football games) and EA Sports made the game with Kevin Love on it and it was the worst game ever. After that EA Sports never released another game because they suck at basketball games.
0- Posted on: Sun, 07/15/2012 - 9:03am #696336
surveParticipantYes, NCAA gave EA exclusive rights and screwed themselves in the process because EA ended up discontinuing the series because it sucked so bad….at least when compared to 2k which was awesome…still have that game and used to fire it up as recent as 2 years ago. Faithfuls still have updated rosters…last time I played, it was when Harrison Barnes was a freshman.
that deal was ridiculously long too, I think it went at least until this year, if not next. Next year would be the earliest…many fans wish for a return and I do as well.

NCarmean18ParticipantAs much as I’d like to create a Facebook/Twitter fan club for a 2K college basketball game, I just don’t have the time or creative tools necessary to do so. I love the idea of bringing a community together to try to get a specific game developed, and if anyone on this forum would like to make an attempt to do so, I would be more than willing to follow it.
As far as the money standpoint is concerned, I think 2K would make bank off of a college basketball game. After all, there is a ton of people out there who love college basketball, gaming, and would love to see that all come together. Plus, being the only college basketball game, they would not have any competition at all, and with the features mentioned above, those few basketball fanatics who would buy both NBA 2K and NBA Live would just skip out on live and buy the current college game, therefore taking money away from EA and putting it into their own pockets. Excellent idea.

NbanflguyParticipantCollege hoops 2k8 was one of the best sports games of all time. We want more college hoops!

0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/15/2012 - 8:24am #696324
Wahoo757ParticipantI really can’t see why 2K sports wouldn’t do this seeing as how they only so 2 video games now (MLB 2K and NBA 2K). I miss college hoops.
0- Posted on: Sun, 07/15/2012 - 10:10am #696369

Lebron’s HairlineParticipantIt would be insane if we could make a star college player and put him on a small school and watch him dominate all the other big name schools in the tournament
0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/15/2012 - 10:12am #696370
McDunkinFix the coaching changes at the end of the season.. assistants never take over its always a random mid major coach taking over at Uconn, Syracuse,Duke, etc
NO clark kellogg
0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/15/2012 - 10:23am #696373
NCarmean18ParticipantI was thinking about forgetting all about Clark Kellogg, and bringing in Dick Vitale! I love that guy’s passion for the game, and unlike most basketball announcers, I actually enjoy listening to him speak.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/15/2012 - 10:26am #696374
phila9012Participantthey could just use the nba engine for gameplay, that would cheapen it up a little bit, they dont need historic teams either like 2k8 had. They should make sure uniforms are right. then after that they should focus on the career modes for coaches and players like my player. Half of the battle is showing interest and the other half is them being able to make a profit on the game, so they can maybe sell it for $50 and NBA for $60 and then they can have a $100 package where you get both. I would would definately buy that.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/15/2012 - 10:44am #696384
NCarmean18ParticipantAs interesting as this seems, I have submitted this forum to 2K Sports. Now, I can almost guarentee that there will be no response to it, however, I figured that trying is better than sitting back and watching nothing take place. I don’t want to get anyone’s hopes up, but could you imagine if they actually considered our ideas about a college basketball game? That is definitely what I consider a win for NBADraft.net. I know the odds are VERY, VERY SLIM, but hey, you only live once, right?
0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/15/2012 - 12:29pm #696436
rileymcshea3ParticipantI would love a new College 2k game and if you really wanna get into highschool basketball and play more games ,instead of having playing 4 years of highschool, you have the option to play for a really good aau team and play in tournaments around the country to get noticed by more colleges or just decline the option to get through the highschool part faster. Then after the season you can also can play in Highschool all star game games like the McDonalds all American or Jordan classic games so you can go into your college career getting noticed by nba teams playing with/against the top players for that year for example this year you would play against/with people like nerlens Noel ,shabazz Muhammad and then play then also play against them in college. Now for creating you player they should make cost alot to be taller for your position, having a longer wingspan, and athlecism that is used for your potential scale for nba scouts.while having that feature involved ,it would be easier to develops skills at the college level for stuff like shooting, defense, basketball iq and strength.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/15/2012 - 1:04pm #696446
GoJOSH HUESTISParticipantFor fans like us it would be great. The problem is there aren’t a lot of fans like us so the company doesn’t make any money when they make college basketball games. Sucks but that’s the bottom line.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/15/2012 - 1:36pm #696457
SubZeroParticipantPeople love college basketball. There’s no way they can’t make money if they make this game

0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/15/2012 - 1:53pm #696462
joecheck88ParticipantI would not buy the college game if Dick Vitale was in it. Lol.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/15/2012 - 2:43pm #696475
GoJOSH HUESTISParticipantSorry but many people obviously don’t love it enough to buy the video games which is why they never make much money when they make the game hence the discontinuing of college basketball games, that’s reality
0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/15/2012 - 9:58pm #696596
NCarmean18ParticipantIt wasn’t that these games were hard to sell because they are college basketball, they were hard to sell because EA does a horrific job with developing basketball games. College Hoops 2K8 was amazing, and if 2K could create a college game based off of the same engine they use for NBA 2K, they’d make a ton of money off of it in my personal opinion.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/15/2012 - 10:16pm #696599
Sewok15ParticipantCollege games are more fun in dynasty modes in my opinion because you get to recruit from a bigger pool of players instead of just adding players through free agency and the draft. It might get frustrating if they make it realistic and none of the top players come back for a 2nd year but it will still be tons of fun. I am on board big time with a new college hoops game!
0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/15/2012 - 10:17pm #696600
GrovesinternationalParticipantit would be kind of cool to have top college vs bottom nba (eg 2012 Kentucky Wildcats vs 2012 Charlotte Bobcats) team battles if there was that level of integration between the games. The AAU idea is also cool and having things like the Elite Basketball Camps (nike skills academy, lebron camp)
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/16/2012 - 12:01am #696610
NCarmean18ParticipantThe Elite basketball camps are ideal. I like the idea of a McDonald’s All-American game introduced so you can get your name out there before commiting to a college. That’s a great idea. High school playoffs, skill academies, and the All-Star game. However, the top college vs. bottom nba idea is not a very good one. The college game is much different then the NBA game, so there is no purpose to compare a top college team to a bottom NBA team.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/16/2012 - 2:53am #696628
rwd5035ParticipantThe create a player mode, and having him go through AAU and camps I think would be pretty cool. Pick a school, the whole shabang. I love that.
I’d love a college basketball game, I still play College Hoops 2k8 to this day.
0- Posted on: Mon, 07/16/2012 - 7:49am #696706
phila9012Participanteither an aau tournament or high school tournament, it would be too much time if they had to have a whole season in high school. If they could make it a max 8 games before college that would be fine. If they could just copy the NCAA football mode when you create a player and play with him through college for the first year I would be okay with that, then they could build from there.
