I have seen multiple places say he had a 48" vertical , along with a 8’10" standing reach , and 12’5" max vertical reach.  Pretty damn impressive to say the least.

And it’s on record that he had some massive hands too.

Think I will try them out, as far as his entering the league in 1984:

    Height w/o shoes: 6’5

    Height w/ shoes: 6’6.25

Weight: 190 (in or around there)

    Wing Span: 6’10.5

    Standing Reach: 8’5

    Body Fat %: 5.4

No Step Vert: 35 inches (Making his no step vert reach 11’4)

Max Vert: 42 inches (I have heard he was as high as 43, probably even higher at times. But, in a combine setting, my guess is he would be somewhere in the 40-42 range. That makes his "Max Vert Reach" 11’11. Still, give him a 12 foot rim, sure he could have touched it)

Bench: 10 (Think anywhere in the 10-12 range. I do not find the bench too indicative of much, especially for SG’s. It is hard to gauge how much stronger one is than the other, just look at the number breakdowns. Mike was strong as hell, but I doubt he’d crush the bench)

Lane Agility: 10.75 (Again, extremely difficult to know how well he would have done. I used Dwyane Wade’s 10.56 as a gauge and assumed Mike might be slightly slower. If you check the breakdown of this drill, incredibly difficult to get concrete results, especially near the top. My opinion is anything under 11 is pretty fantastic)

    3/4 court sprint: 3.1

To me, these are indicative of an absolutely fantastic athlete. I do not know if Michael Jordan would have crushed every combine drill record ever, but many of the leagues best players haven’t. I personally think I might be over projecting what Michael would have done at the combine, but I think the combine is supposed to give you an idea of someone’s athleticism as opposed to cement how great a player will be.

It is very hard to look at combine numbers and say "this is how someone is going to play". If you are a great athlete, you have some abilities that others may not possess. But, it also is about using them to your advantage. I know Dwyane Wade and Russell Westbrook both did not test out at 40 inch verts, but still are much better at driving to the basket opposed to players who might have higher verticals and agility drill times. Just food for thought when assuming the numbers Michael would have put up.

No.. It doenst answer my question.  You didnt know there were teens on the internet?? Some are even preteens… I dont know where you are from, but in the USA, where most people on the forum are from, there is no age restriction on the internet and the people who use it. Also, this site doesnt require you to be 18+ to post..

You should know by now that you sometimes just get random negs for no apparent reason at all even if you took a completely objective stance.

People are stupid. One point doesn’t matter. Get over it.

Kids , doesn’t mean you can’t post , but it limits the respect I have for your opinion when you are some high school kid who doesn’t know the NBA and or basketball before 2003.

Are you saying I am a high school kid or that there are some high school kids on the board?? Because there are some kids here. Quite a few infact.. While some are stupid, there are still some that are knowledgable. Just beacause they didnt follow the NBA before 2003 doesnt mean they dont know whats going on.. That means they have still been following the NBA for 9 years.. Thats a long time..

Dont hate on someone just because they are younger.. Youth doesnt equal ignorance..

Actually , youth does breed ignorance.  In most instances someone with less life experience will be less knowledgeable.  I sure as hell wasn’t as mature , well traveled , or intelligent when I was 18 compared to now.

You are all of those things but still dont know where to put a comma??

Also, life experiences have nothing to do with numbers in a draft combine… Maybe a younger person couldnt run a business or survive in the desert but thats not what we are talking about here.. We are talking about "internet points."

What we are talking about is people who don’t have the basketball knowledge trying to talk about basketball.

I am a bit infatuated with people who think they are better than me. Just happens I guess. Would that be considered inmaturity??

Also, I think the FYI is supposed to tell me something I didnt know.. It means "For Your Information." I think that if anyone knew that I was following you around and asking you why you seem pissed off, it would be me..

    Good looking out though…

Didn’t think you would be so much of a schmuck that you would admit to being infatuated with me , plus it was meant in sarcasm.

while your really overreacting a lot, i agree with your point to some degree. there should be a sub-forum board where only users with a certain number of points can post so that people who know what they are talking about and make legitimate points in their arguments can talk basketball. the minumum requirement wouldnt be anything outrageous (maybe 300 points?) just so that you don’t have guys in the negative hundreds ruining forum topics, or like you said less knowledgeable guys making invalid arguments.

Dude, I for one did not minus you, but who cares if someone else did? I get where you got it from:

http://40-yard-dash-times.com/vertical-leap.html (Might have helped to state your source)

The thing I do not get is how this is necessarily a reliable (if not viable) resource. For instance, if one goes into the site that shall not be named database history, they will see that Michael or Vince Carter having 8’10 standing reaches (as the 40 yard dash time site entails), seems pretty unlikely. LeBron James standing reach is 8’10.25, Dwyane Wade is 8’6. I had him at slightly less than Dwyane as I felt that would still be well above average for a SG.

The average standing reach for a SF is around 8’8, with a wing span around 6’10. It is very feasible to me that Michael might be around this range. But, for Michael to have a similar standing reach to LeBron James would surprise me and I just do not believe it to be true.

Now, as far as you being minused, who cares? Live and learn, dude. Posting a link, even if it is just to a sight without definite credibility (yet one with the exact numbers you stated), would just make the "actual measurements" a tad more believable. I had come across that sight before and kind of feel like they go off more mythical figures than actual measurements. They could be actual figures, but I would not completely bank on all of them being the actual verticals or measurements of the athletes listed.

Seeing that your post got fairly good reception beyond the microphallus (pretty funny, lol) that negged you, I do not see the reason for such a reaction. No one is perfect, there is always room for improvement (posting a link to back up what you said, in this case) and sometimes even if the facts are right in front of someone, they will either have a reason for disagreeing with them or a disbelief.

Michael Jordan was an exceptional athlete and had incredible physical characteristics, but I am sure whether the numbers you got were "actual measurements". I decided to let it go and not neg your post, maybe someone else felt differently. Still think it was a tiny overreaction on your part and to not let it get to you. None of us are perfect (myself included) and not everyone will like what we post. I find that if you know what you are talking about and back it up, than you will be fine. Hope you are alright and that you maybe get some perspective on why someone negged you.

You do not HAVE to give a reference (unless you are posting an article or someone else’s creative content). Still, to write as angry a message as you did than continue to come off heated, it is not really helping your cause for change. It makes little sense to me to get angry at a suggestion of a way to possible do things that back your point up.

I am not looking down on you, you seem like a smart guy, but just telling you how a certain person may feel and ways to get around it. You can take it as an insult or as someone trying to help you avoid anger in these types of situations. What is wrong with taking two seconds to put up a link if it is going to make your point that much more concrete?
