Came across an interesting article to me and it kind of made a lot of sense. From the first time I saw Simmons play, I couldn’t help but notice there was something very awkward about Simmons game and I couldn’t quite put my finger on exactly what it was. The main weakness in his game is undoubtedly the complete lack of confidence in his jump shot. Could it be that it just doesn’t feel natural to him because he is shooting with the wrong hand?

If you watch Simmons play, he is basically a right handed player that shoots lefty. On his drives to the basket, he almost always tries to finish with his right, even it situations where it would be more advantageous to finish with his left. This is extremely unusual for a left-handed player. Apparently, simmons does pretty much everything else off the court with his right hand and has even acknowledged himself that he is basically right-handed.

I’m honestly kind of shocked that someone didn’t pick this up and at least try to correct it earlier in basketball development. Maybe they did and weren’t able to. Who knows? If Simmons should be shooting with his right it will be extremely difficult to correct now, although we’ve seen some players like Tristan Thompson try with mixed results. It really kind of makes me question how much better Simmons can get shooting the ball if it will just never feel natural to him. Should Simmons actually try to switching to a right-hand jump shot at this stage?

It does make him a pain driving and in the post because he can use either hand so well, same with passing with either.  Noel was a little like that, preferring to finish with his off hand.

But he actually doesn’t use both hands that well. He seems to really only prefer to finish with his right, even when it makes more sense to use the left.

Yea, its a misconception that just because shoots with his left hand but finish with his right that Simmons is ambidextrous. In reality, he can’t finish with his left, and thus does not choose to use it. Even if he gathers with his 1,2 and uses his right foot to take off, he STILL finishes/switches to his right hand which makes it look really akward.

The Sixers should trade Ben Simmons to the Lakers for the 2nd pick, Jordan Clarkson, Zubac, and Larry Nance, Jr.

Lonzo Ball/Joel Embiid pick and rolls in Philly… Saric and Nance Jr. at the forward spots…

Yep. That’s a TURRIBLE trade for the Lakers.

didn’t know Simmons could shoot with either hand , but thats cool , maybe thats why he is a pass first player.

Quite seriously… it doesnt matter.  He is 7ft now. He can finish in the lane with a variety of moves with his right hand if they put a smaller player on him. If they double him, he will find the right pass. If they put a bigger player on him, he will blow right by them from outside or be too quick inside. The only move is to put a small defender on him and sag off him, but he’ll just back them down or move off the ball down low.

Simmons and Embiid pick n rolls will be fun to watch
