He can obviously throw down with the best of them, but if you look at his highlights of his "top" dunks he should be called for an offensive foul on a lot of them. Whenever he tries to dunk over someone he sticks out his free arm to create separation or even boost himself up, like what people do when trying to dunk over people in the dunk contest. I’m not saying that he is not a great dunker, because he is really good. But true great dunks dont have a stiff arm in them. What you guys think?

Hes just a ferocious dunker. I never seen anybody attack the rim and the defender like he does. I just wonder when he’ll put the kind of intensity that he has going up for dunks on the defensive side of the ball. Until then Ill call him an overrated player but not an overrated dunker.

He’s not overrated unless people think he’s the best dunker of all time.

I would put Vince Carter at number 1 greatest dunker of all time. Blake Griffin can be whatever position after that. I just don’t think anyone tops Vince in his prime.

Probably the best dunking power forward today, but not of all time. I still like Shawn Kemp’s dunking abilities more.

    Top 20 dunkers

    1.  Vince Carter

    2.  Michael Jordan

    3.  Dr. J

    4.  Dominique Wilkins

    5.  Shawn Kemp

    6.  David Thompson

    7.  Blake Griffin

    8.  Jason Richardson

    9.  Dwight Howard

    10.  LeBron James

    11.  Harold Miner

    12.  Larry Nance

    13.  Spud Webb

    14.  Kobe Bryant

    15.  Darryl Dawkins

    16.  Tom Chambers

    17.  Clyde Drexler

    18.  Scottie Pippen

    19.  Derrick Rose

    20.  Shaquille O’Neal

Blake Griffin is fairly rated as the best game dunker now and one of the best ever.  But, he was slightly overrated as a dunk contest dunker last year.  He had some very good dunks but I think he could have done better.  He is a dunk contest dunker similar to Shawn Kemp, but MJ, Vince, and Nique were all better dunk contest dunkers.  Those 3 had more flair.

Some of those guys on my list were great in-game dunkers, others were great dunk contest dunkers.  Others, like MJ, Nique, and Vince were both.

One of the most underrated is Jason Richardson.  I had a hard time placing Harold Miner since he was a great dunk contest guy but didn’t have a lot of in game dunks, but he could really throw it down so I placed him just outside the top ten.

Darryl Dawkins was a great big man dunker, but not as good as Dwight Howard.  I couldn’t really decide between Kobe, Dawkins, and Chambers but I gave the nod to Kobe since he has a dunk title plus nearly two decades worth of dunking material.  I think Shaq was the most powerful dunker ever and he had some very good ones.  Two that brought down the goal and some great alley-oop dunks.  So I had to put Shaq in my Top 20 even though he wasn’t the most creative dunker ever.

I know one thing, at 5’8” and 168 3/4 pounds (I’m anal, like to know every part of my weight), if I saw Blake Griffin charging down the lane at me looking to dunk, I’d kindly step out of the way and watch him do it. When he’s going to the rim he’s one of the most feared players in the NBA.

This thread was probably made because of his 2nd dunk over Pau last night. I was pissed at Pau because afterwards he started complaining to the ref…then they showed the replay.Yeah the stiff arm was like a jab to the face and Pau had a legitimate complaint, but thats what the fans pay to see, and they certainly won’t call that at staples(LAC HC). Refs will take notice and on the road thats going the other way.

Listen…Blake may be vastly overrated, may have no real post game, no jump shot, terrible FT shooter, not a good defender. BUT HE CAN DUNKKKKKKK. Most definitely.

He has a lot of "hype" dunks, and while it is true that both of his dunks last night were likely fouls, they were so spectacular that it froze everyone, including the refs, in terms of actually calling them fouls. He will go down as one of the greatest dunkers of all time, but because he is a big man, I doubt he will ever be considered to be on the same level as Jordan, Carter and Dr. J. If Pau Gasol had have boxed out a little better, than maybe the refs would have give him a foul call. Just because you are in front of someone, doesn’t automatically mean that it is over the back, if you don’t do a solid job of boxing them out.

Again, I though he could have pulled of much better dunks in the dunk contest, as his dunks were based of off hype opposed to substance. He was basically given the award before the competition even started and I was thoroughly more impressed with Javale McGee.

I think he’s rated fine — the best dunker right now, and it isn’t close.  How he compares to the all-time greats is open for debate.

Offensive fouls?  You’ve got to be kidding.  This is a man’s league.

He just very disrespectful…  To be honest the ish he did last night dudes would be fighting afterwards if it was the street…  You just don’t Elbow a guy in the face that hard then embarrass him in front of people by dunking it…  People say other players stick out that chicken wing too…  Which is true, BUT Blake does it with so much force its almost like a punch in the jaw…  I don’t like it per say and think its weak but hey to each its own…

He need to improve his post game and defense he is just terrible…  The Clippers half court offense is trash…

Disrespectful? Well, this is nba. If you think this is can’t take the shame then don’t play basketball. How about Dirk pulling that fadeaway jumper? Kobe making buzzer beaters? Lebron jumping over a guy for alley-oop? Aren’t they disrespectful?

Overrated Dunker? No. Overrated Player? Yes.

Blake gets many of his points because of his sheer athleticism and dunks. Same for DeAndre Jordan. If you take away their athleticism, they’re both pretty one-dimensional players. But when you can do stuff like this:

    BLAKE GRIFFIN DOMINATION

People will gladly turn a blind eye.
