HobbyOGParticipantWhy is everyone so high on this kid? I’ve seen him play a couple games and I wasn’t wow’d by his peformance. So I looked up his stats, he’s 6’11 and average a little under 6 rebounds a game and barley 10pts. I’m not saying he’s a bust, just wanted to get educated on the hype of this guy, help a brotha out, thanks.

Tim49461ParticipantSo you are basing a prospect on a *couple of games you have seen. I mean we can all agree that is smartest decision to do.
I saw Adam Morrison go for a couple 40 pt games…Clearly the next Larry Bird.

ChewyParticipantAll his said was "this is my impression of him in the limited time that I have seen him."
He is not bashing people for having JJ so high in mocks, he was just asking a question.
My answer- He can shoot the 3 and defend the pick and roll. That’s what would get me excited about him as a prospect.

HobbyOGParticipantTim49461 I clearly stated…"I’m not saying he’s a bust, just wanted to get EDUCATED on the hype of this guy, help a brotha out, thanks."
So calm your Floyd Mayweather non-reading azz down..
Chewy Thanks for the insight, didn’t know he was a stretch four. Whou would you compare him to?

SeattleSuperChronicsParticipantLeave Adam out of this!!! He’s a college GOAT.

sweaterflexParticipantJaren Jackson Jr. was the victim of bad incentives at MSU. Nick Ward was the only frontcourt member coming back next season so they forced JJJ to play out of position and for less minutes than he normally would at most programs. He is an elite rim defender (second in block rate in all of college basketball behind Sagaba Konage) who is fast enough laterally to defend on switches. He ranked second in Defensive Box +/-, and fourth in Defensive Rating.
On offense, JJJ spaces the floor effectively (39.6% from 3 on 5 attempts per 40 minutes, 79.7% from the line) and can roll to the rim and finish at the rim with his 7’4 wingspan. On offense he lacks one elite skill, but is above average across the board.
His combination of best defense in the class and lack of weaknesses on offense make him the lowest risk prospect in the class besides Doncic (and possibly Mikal Bridges). He doesn’t cramp a team’s spacing on offense and he can anchor either a conservative or aggressive defensive scheme.

holefillers1ParticipantI agree with Cosby sweaters. JJJ is an outstanding prospect. His game is made for the NBA, protects the paint and can switch on the perimeter. He can also hit the three. He can even initiate the offense at the top of the key. Only thing he can’t do well is operate out of the post. This is something that will come with age as he is the youngest player in the draft. He can play the four and the five. I feel as a prospect he is on the level Nerlens Noel was when he entered the league and will become everything Noel has not. I have heard Marquesse Chris comps, I think he is much better than Chris. He should be something closer to Chris Bosh IMO.

weballin.netParticipantI understand Jackson is a great prospect, but I don’t see why he would be considered a better prospect than Bamba. Almost all mocks put Jackson above Bamba but I feel like Bamba, who didn’t have the best team around him, could be better in the League and is a better rebounder.

Lotto StudParticipantI may be one of the few who has Bamba in the top-3 according to the current lottery standings.

ChewyParticipantI would take Bamba over JJ, but to be fair, they do play different positions. JJ is a stretch 4 and Bamba is a shot blocking C.

weballin.netParticipanton Bamba’s position, I think he will be more a shooting four than a pure five. He’s nothing like a Rudy Gobert and prefers to play face to the basket. For me, he will be a ultra long PF in the League who should be teamed with a strong C, a bit like Porzingis for the Knicks

FuqdatassParticipantnext to John Collins in ATL IMO.

holefillers1ParticipantI saw Bamba out of position far too often. For a guy with that athleticism and wingspan, he should have had 20+ boards every game. His BBIQ is low and for a guy who needs to rely on positioning in the post to be effective I dont see him as a can’t miss. He is more Serge Ibaka than Rudy Gobert. Not sure that will translate to greatness unless he can expand his game. Thats where the low basketball IQ might slow him up.
A guy like Jackson can guard more than one position. He doesnt need to rely on heavy rounding to be effective. If Bamba isn’t boxing out and getting rebounds he is probably just blocking shots and taking elbow jumpers…Ibaka

HeroescantdieParticipantAthletic with a shooting touch, in the mold of skill set of marquiz chriss but Jackson is better in all aspects plus he’s more knowledgable compared to Chriss, Jackson’s basketball IQ is good, not like Chriss but they are athletic forward who can shoot the three, athletic enough to cover and guard opposing players, but chriss IQ suggests he is not yet there compared to Jackson in defense and offense.

OhCanada-ParticipantGotta be honest I dont think Bamba is gonna fill out. He will get stronger and isnt afraid of contact but hes not gonna fill out. He’s gonna take a beating over an 82 game season and wear and tear has taken its toll on everyone not named Lebron James in the NBA. If he was 25 pounds heavier I would consider him a top 3 prospect but because of my perception about his weight limitations I would probably pick JJJ. You get a defensive playmaker and a floor spacer which is everything you would be asking from Bamba. With Bamba you have a bit more upside due to his length but with Jackson he has proven he can shoot consistantly which Bamba has not and he has a more defined role as a PF/C.
On a side note this is an amazing rookie class for bigs. Carter is flying under the radar, Ayton and Bagley averaged 20 and 10. Bamba and Jackson Jr. have some of the best pick and roll defence Ive seen in a prospect. In pick and roll defense Ive seen both of these guys show on the ball handling gaurd, get back to the rolling bigman to deny a pass or lob from the gaurd, then meet the gaurd at the rim for a contest or block. Most bigs wont even fight through the screen.

Lotto StudParticipant“Gotta be honest I dont think Bamba is gonna fill out. He will get stronger and isnt afraid of contact but hes not gonna fill out.”
The same thing was said about Tyson Chandler once upon a time.

OhCanada-ParticipantThat just strengthens my gut feeling. In the last 10 seasons Chandler has an average of 58 games played per year. The last player I’d want to be missing games is my ddefensive anchor.

Lotto StudParticipantHow does that tie into your initial statement about Bamba not filling out his frame?
0- Posted on: Tue, 04/17/2018 - 10:37am #1115431
Lotto StudParticipantTyson Chandler 220 to 240
Kevin Durant 215 to 240
Brandan Wright 210 to 235
John Henson 216 to 229
Anthony Davis 222 to 253
Nerlens Noel 206 to 2200
