marcusfizer21ParticipantThey have been compared to religious figures.
They are acknowledged by many as the greatest in their individual eras.
They are truly bona-fide superstars of the NBA.
During a lazy afternoon a couple of weeks ago, I stumbled upon this video, sitting prettily inside the confines of YouTube. It’s topic was about Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan: who had the better overall performance, Kobe’s 81 points or Michael’s 69 points?
Each of those point totals are each player’s highest scoring performance in their career…thus far.
They are certainly unbelievable numbers for a player to score in a single game, but whose single game performance was more impressive to you viewers?
Kobe’s or Michael’s?
Here are Kobe’s stats in the high-scoring game: 81 points, six rebounds, two assists, three steals, and one block.
Notable: He shot a blistering 28-46 from the field, making over 50 percent of his shots from behind the arc to the rim. The Lakers were down by double digits starting the second quarter before Kobe started shooting lights out. Kobe was also shooting 90 percent from the charity line.
Here are Michael’s stats in his high-scoring game: 69 points, 18 rebounds, six assists, and four steals.
Notable: He shot a hot .621 percent from the field making 23-37 field goal attempts. When he scored 69 points, it was an overtime thriller against the Cleveland Cavaliers. MJ had his career high in rebounds as well with those 18 boards grabbed.
Each option, whether it is Kobe or MJ, have defensible opinions that are understandable. Kobe had the higher point total, while MJ had the better rebounding numbers, etc. Their are no right or wrong answers.
So…which performance impressed YOU the most?

llpereza triple OT game? I’m not sure, but I thought it was.

dwat4444ParticipantMichael had 15 more minutes and less points so the rate at which he scored is like scoring 50 which is done by many players. He did have the 18rbs though…still i go with kobe’s 81

mrbomParticipantI think Jordan’s performance more impressive. He played against a Cleveland team that was a lot better defensively than the 06 Raptors.

llperezI did’nt see Jordan’s live though, so take it for what it’s worth. But Kobe only had 20 something in the first half and his team was down double digits at half time. Then he came out in the second half like a bat outta hell and pumped in 50 some in the second half and single handidly turned what looked like a blowout loss into a blowout victory. You can criticize the Raptor’s D, but Kobe was hittin shots from everywhere like he was alone in a gym by himself.
As a side note, two weeks earlier Kobe had single handidly outscored the Mavs through 3 quarters. It was Kobe 62-Mavs 61 to start the 4th. He sat out the 4th because it was a blowout, but he finished with 62 in like 33 minutes against one of the league’s best teams.

GoodbyeChandlerParticipantcause he scored on the nbas best defender in mo peterson (jk about that). but 3s were falling for kobe. it didnt matter if mo tackled him or hit him with a baseball bat. he was that hot that night. plus, i got the feeling that if he really wanted to and if phil let him he couldve scored more than that. that was a night kobe will never forget and one mo wishes everybody can.

billykParticipantJordans 63 in the Boston Garden was more impressive than his 69 aganist the Cavs and Kobes 81 aganist the Raptors…..

no1Participantquick question for everyone whats more 81 or 69……………….. exactly 81 kobes performance was un-earthly

NarcParticipantJordan’s is way more impressive. He did it against a better team, and had a more impressive stat line IMO.

SmooveKRYPTParticipantJordans was…his team didn’t give him the ball and clear out every single play for the last 5 minutes, I watched the 4th quarter of that game and was disgusted, I don’t care how hot you are, that’s not cool to just have your teammates standing at half court and behind the 3pt line while you just jack up shots!!!
And yeah Billy K you’re right…that Jordon performance in Boston tops both!!!

nthegoodlifeParticipantJordan had what, 15 more minutes of play and CRAIG EHLO guarding him much of the game. Are you serious? You see the lack of athletic talent on the floor. Jordan was in an athletic league of his own. Kobe also had 60 something on the Mavs and sat out half the third and all of the fourth in that game.

the microwaveParticipantless hand checking allowed these days.. So it is definetely easier to score
0 - Posted on: Fri, 08/07/2009 - 4:29am #197326
ckowalskiParticipantI think Jordan’s is more impressive because he filled up the stat sheet. I think Kobe only had like 5 or 6 rebounds and 2 assists with those 81 points.

ckowalskiParticipantI’m an idiot, I didn’t even see Kobe’s stats posted up there.

simos15ParticipantI was watching that kobe game. It was incredible. You will never see anyone score that many points in an NBA game again.
Kobe hands down. And i am a loyal MJ fan, but Kobe was on another planet that day.

CriticalTruthParticipantbut yu cant say jordans performance was better just because yu like him… cuz dats krazy kobes performance was to another level dat game n dats obvious

BasketballGuru24ParticipantI Don’t Care How Great Jordan Is That 81 Point Effort By Kobe Was A One In A Lifetime Thing…….I Doubt it Will Happen Again
Going For The 81
0 - Posted on: Fri, 08/07/2009 - 5:43am #197343
justin22443ParticipantI know this doesn’t really have anything to do with Kobe and MJ, but didn’t T-Mac put up 60 some points in just 3 quarters when he was with the Magic?
And as far as my opinion for who had the better game, I’d go with Kobe’s 81.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 08/07/2009 - 7:31am #197364
tonyl33ParticipantWhen you say basketball, it’s MJ#23. 69 points 18 rebounds is a double double.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 08/07/2009 - 8:41am #197373
Bryant24ParticipantJordan greatest player of all time but kobe had 81 points thats unheard of wilt scored a 100 but 81 in this era is harder to me defense is better and players are stronger and faster in this era.81 points some teams dont score that much. Jordan did his thing to but im goin with kobe
