Arc12345ParticipantYes, you read that correctly. Lavar has said in a recent interview with GQ magazine that Gelo won’t make it to the NBA. He said if you have 3 sons, you’ll be lucky to get 1 or 2 there.
Personally, I don’t think he’s necessarily wrong here. If there’s one Ball I wouldn’t expect to make it to the NBA it would be Gelo. But, I hope he can prove the world and his father wrong.
He’s definitely got a long way to go, but if he loses some serious weight and works on his quickness and athleticism (which should come almost immediately after losing the weight), I think he can be picked next year. Whether it’s first round, second round, or barely at all will depend on his numbers at UCLA and how much he transforms his body.
As a shooter, I think he’s legit. He’s got nice size for an NBA SG. So we’ll see. What are your thoughts?

Anton123ParticipantCertainly won’t get picked next year, if he works like hell, he might become an NBA prospect by his Jr. or Sr. season. When and how exactly do you expect him to completely transform his body before the 2018 draft?
He needs to lose lots of weight, change his game (his go-to move right now is to post-up at the three point line), then get used to his new body, then work on perfecting his new game style.
That will take more than half a year.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantIf it weren’t for family pedigree liangelo would be lucky to get offers from mid-majors. Don’t mean to sound too harsh, but he is light years away from even being mentioned as an NBA prospect. He is way too slow to be able to guard anyone at his size and not quick or athletic enough to be able to beat anyone off the dribble or finish at the rim. At this point, I see his role at UCLA strictly as a spot up shooter. I don’t think he’ll be much of a factor there at all. I could see him transferring and lavar probably blaming the coach if things don’t work out.

Taylor Gang MikeParticipantI think his ceiling is Eric Gordon.. he can get in shape with the summer workouts and be really good. He averaged 35ppg for a reason. Elite shooter and he may start at the 2 if Ali injury comes back.. If he has a monster season Lavar will make his case and I could see him getting drafted

IndianaBasketballParticipantI hope you mean post-injury Eric Gordon… Because pre-injury, Gordon was one of the more explosive athletes in the NBA both vertically and laterally. A tough on the ball defender.

holefillers1ParticipantCherry picking and jacking up 3’s. I am not a fan of his game and neither are the scouts. What’s his rank…250?

bigtymer32Participantif you pay attention to lavar interviews.on moment he says all my boys will be one and done.yesterday in a video talking about the draft process he talked about how he’ll doing this alll again next year.
why did lavar really say gelo won’t make the nba?to motivate his son to do better and show the world he’s good too.gelo has potential you don’t score 35 ppg a game in high school for nothing but defense and play making ability will be things he needs to work out.i hope he watches loads of tape on reggie miller, rip hamiltion and especially klay thompson.thompson in todays nba is what melo should strive for if not be better.
lavar believes all his boys will be stars.only time we’ll see if gelo put in the work.

publius2481ParticipantBecause of his shooting ability, I think he can turn himself into an NBA prospect (teams are always looking for more shooting, especially in today’s NBA). He clearly projects as a 2-guard, but needs to work on his defense and conditioning (as others have mentioned). I seriously doubt he will be drafted next year (hope I am wrong, I want every prospect to do well), but if he works I could see him being drafted after his junior year. Given he is not on most teams draft boards now, he will need some time to impress scouts and I doubt he can do everything he needs to do in one year at UCLA.

CynthiaParticipantAfter hearing his Dad hype his brother all year long like he’s a God, I’m sure it’s very disheartening for Gelo to hear his Dad say he won’t make the NBA. This could either light a fire under his arse or just depress him to the point he loses all motivation.
As a Mother I dislike Lavar with a passion, he’s an obvious case of mental abuse/brainwashing. You know damn well he forced basketball on his kids at an extremely young age and gave them no options to do anything else in life. I cringe so hard every time he speaks, he’s not a father he’s more like an agent that only cares about the money and the fame, instead of the player.

90sNYKParticipantI just relax and go to school. Get a business degree and capitalize off of my brothers and family name. That’s after I hit some groupies of course..

EndlessknightParticipantMaybe he should switch is game. Given his size he’ll make one hell on a tight end.

DanielcmccartyParticipantI used to think he was probably a real loving father in the household, with a selfish mindset to get attention from his boys abilities. But now i think he has favorites hahaha
