Matas Buzelis vs Tidjane Salaun

Your the GM in a war room and need a talented forward and/or a rebuild… Who do you got? Matas Buzelis or Tidjane Salaun??? Make your case for either one…

Imo both are boom/bust prospects. High ceiling but low floor. Coming into the season, I thought Matas Buzelis would be the guy at the top spot. His shooting went downhill from there and was also experiencing the injury bug a little. Some believe he can hang his hat on shooting – yet he’s only shot well once in the last 3 years. His handle isn’t bad, but it needs some fine tuning still yet, but he has the tools to be great still. His long frame and solid vertical to go with his basketball IQ and raw skills still make him an intriguing prospect.

Tidjane Salaun has maybe the best frame in the draft. That can go a long way at times. In the case with Giannis – it did that year. Not everyone is Giannis, and Tidjane isn’t… But Salaun is willing to shoot the rock, and although it hasn’t come around quite yet, the form looks good and he’s letting it fly. This shows willingness to improve. He also has the tools and is one of the rawest prospects in the draft. Tidjane is every bit of athletic as Buzelis is. He is still learning the game and didn’t play every game growing up where he had to be the man, but rather can play within the game.

If I wanted the best player in this scenario, I’d easily take Buzelis. But, for long term – in most cases, my choice would be Tidjane Salaun. Seems like his defense is just as good already and his trajectory long term is better imo. Give me Salaun.

For the better player now I’d take Buzelis but I agree Salaun has more upside and has the stronger frame and more power. It just depends who takes a risk where. I haven’t honestly decided who I would pick first but both guys are top 10 picks min IMO.

I’m wondering at 5 to Detroit if they keep that pick, if Buzelis connection sticks or if they go with a more upside swing… If I’m the Pistons in particular, I’d go with Salaun… They’re not going to do anything even if they make the playoffs at least next year. (doubt it) Might as well go long term imo.

Wouldn’t take either in the lottery. Matas with the weak wingspan and the bricky season, Tidjane is super raw and couldn’t score inside the arc. Tidjane is at least younger and physically fits the profile, he would be my pick but I wouldn’t feel great about it.
