Still no comp for Mikal Bridges on the updated mock. He has really caught me off gaurd this year with his play. Just when I thought I had this kid figured out, he starts balling out. How pissed would you all be if I compared him to Kawhi Leonard? I don’t want to be the guy that goes the complete opposite way with something when he gets it wrong but give it some thought. Length, position, style of play, late bloomers, Mikal is already a better shooter. I know the odds of Bridges becoming Leonard are slim but these mocks are full of All-star level comps even into the late teens.
Has anyone else even entertained this or am I completely off the reservation?

 Aside from his Bridges’ freakish wingspan and wiry frame, he reminds me of Brandon Rush while at Kansas, before he let himself settle into the role of a spotter in the NBA.

he has good athleticism and good length, stands out.  This is as arbitrary as the website’s out of 10 ratings. 

I think the kid will become a very good role player in the NBA.  

Since the OP is a Sixers fan, there are only two guys I want in this draft where the Sixers will likely be picking…from 7 – 10.

As I’ve said, after some thinking the guard triple threat ability and ability to defend is extremely important in today’s NBA.  On good teams you have to have a couple players that can collapse a defense and surround them with shooters or other players with at least good defense and one good trait (rebounding, 3 point shooting etc).

On Cleveland, you have Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, and Isiah Thomas who are all playmakers.

On Boston, an extremely smart GM acquired Gordon Heyward (probably the reason he passed on Fultz knowing he could have Heyward be his playmaker even before he acquired Kyrie, or stuck with I.T.) and Kyrie Irving.  Both Kyrie and Heyward can get their own shots and are very good handling the ball.

On Golden State you obviously have Steph Curry and Kevin Durant, but even Shaun Livingston is able to get in the paint with his handle and Klay can do it too at times (he straight abused JJ Reddick).  

 

I am actually pretty impressed with Lonnie Walker so far from what I’ve seen from HS AS games etc.  He’s very athletic, a local kid, and a possible triple threat.  I think him and Fultz in the backcourt would be great with Simmons Embiid and Covington to start.  Both Walker and Fultz are 6’5” and very athletic.  I’d love to see it.

I also want Mikal, not Miles, Bridges.  I think Mikal may not be a triple threat but you hope he can be a very good 3 and D, basically a slightly more mobile Robert Covington with a little more maneuverability.  Another local kid, Villanova product.  I don’t think he’s as dynamic as Lonnie Walker, but he’d be a nice piece due to his defense next to Fultz Covington Embiid Simmons.

Right now in that 7 – 10 range these are the only two fits I want for Philly, Lonnie Walker and Mikal Bridges.  

I don’t think Miles Bridges is skilled enough (shooting, handling, passing), he’s a classic tweener but Philly has Simmons, we need to suround the rest of our squad with skilled players.

 Collin Sexton is a fascinating option if you think of him as that alpha-scoring sixth man.

 I like what you said about 3 and D players in our current NBA.  It makes it easy to take a chance on a prospect when his floor is a 3D wing.  Just the threat of hitting on a two way wing is enough to keep guys like Mikal in the top ten.

That was my initial tought, SG version of Otto Porter.

Role player deluxe, mid tier.

Team player, smart, efficient, my favorite stat with Porter, his insane TO number, the guy averaged 0,6 TO last season, playing 32+ minutes.

When Porter was drafted, i was thinking Tayshaun Prince for him, now 24yo Otto VS 24Yo Prince….

Sure Bridges would be a great fit for the sixers, alongside star power, scorers-passers, just playing his role as a 4th, 5th option, runner, cutter, catch and shooter, that’s winning basketball for years.

A tall, long, versatile team.

I’m sure Thibodeau would love a guy like him for his wolves, Pop would probably use him too…

Hornets could play him at the 2 and Batum at the 3 with Monk 6th men instant offense, MKG at the 3 and 4 off the bench.

Their starting 5 ain’t working against anybody and they still play batum at the 2, MKG at the 3, mind blowing.

I can see Bridges having an NBA career averaging around 12 pts 5 rbs

 You can really get in trouble when making comparisons for athletic 6’6 wings.

So, split the difference between Sam Young and Michael Jordan.

 Agreed, for every leonard, Butler, Porter there is a Wesley Johnson, Terence Ross.  I still don’t think his floor is as low as say a Tony Snell.

 Looking ahead to the draft, on the one hand, if Mikal Bridges soars up the lotto boards and if the Bulls don’t exactly win the lottery, then Mikal to the Bulls would make some sense (pair him with Markannen.  Plus they have Dunn and LaVine at guard.  So, Mikal could be a guy in a three guard rotation or their 3.

Yeah, that would be a lot of hype to live up to — possibly the third pick in the draft.  Bridges is an athletic 6’6 wing who won a title as a freshman, yeah, what are the odds that he will be the Next Jordan?  Or even a Baby Jordan who sells tickets in Chicago — all by himself.

But, I mean, if the Bulls pass on Mikal Brides and he turns into something even APPROACHING Michael Jordan (or even PRIME Ron Harper) then the Bulls’ brass would never live it down.  The draft guru would be the Bartman of the new era.  

Yeah, I will call it: Mikal Bridges to the Bulls.  Makes too much sense.  And, with the Bulls on a five game winning streak, they might not be a lock for a top 2 pick anyway.  

Philly?  Yeah, they locked up Covington, and I bet they plan to resign Reddick, plus they already drafted Fultz, but I think they really missed the boat when they passed on Tatum.  The Sixers need a GUY on the wing, and we are not sure what Fultz’ upside is.  

The No-Look (and not in a GOOD way) Grizzlies could use some help at the 3 as well, if they don’t land a top 3 pick.

This draft is gonna come down to the top 2 or 3 bigs, Sexton, and Mikal Bridges (maybe Miles Bridges, too).

Although Philly could probably have a shot at drafting BOTH Bridges and should fit in PERFECTLY on their team.

What part of Bridges reminds you of Jordan other than his physical attributes?. When i think of a Jordan-type of prospect (have never compared anyone to Jordan yet), im thinking of someone that looks like Mikal but has the handles of a PG, an unstoppable pull up, uber skilled in the post, and great playmaker…. Bridges lacks the skill.

 I agree that Bridges would be a great fit in Philly playing around Covington, Fultz etc. He could cover a couple of positions and give great depth from the bench, his wingspan gives them even more options on defence plus for a still very young team as he will be 22 when he makes his NBA debut he brings a fair bit more experience than a freshman 19 year old would.

Charlotte also seems the sort of team who could draft him too although they have decent depth in his positions, they may feel he’d be a safer pick.

Any team who is really considering Doncic and who may be a few places too low to take him would also logically look at Mikal as he plays similar positions.

Orlando would also seem another team who might have a good look at him.

If Chicago did improve and with Lavine returning eventually then he might be a good fit there possibly helping to fill the Jimmy Butler void.
