I was listening to Zach Lowe’s podcast with JVG, and they were talking about how MKG injury was a blessing for Charlotte.

Sure, they lost a bit on D, but they have gained so much on offense.

Yes, it helps that Kemba is making more of those tougher shots than in previous years.

Yes, Batum has come in and is killing it 10/11/11 today!

Yes, Cody Zeller is having a mini breakout.

Yes, Marvin Williams is FINALLY looking more than a corpse.

But, by having no MKG, they have more floor spacing and are currently 12-8 and 2nd in the East.

I think MKG was improving his J, so next year, he can come back and hopefully blossom into a 35% 3 and D player, maybe 6th man off the bench.

A few years back, Charlotte sucked really bad, going 7-59 (off memory).  They’ve done a decent job at turning it around.  (Take note Philly).

I still think MKG was worth his contract.  He has helped change the culture of this team, and as long as he keeps working hard to develop his shot, he will have a place in this league.

Dude was taken at #2 ahead of Beal, Lillard, Drummond, Barnes.

All will be All Stars. MKG is a role player.

Now hes being paid a lot of money, and his team is proving to be better off without him.

A lot of people defend him cos hes an admirable guy. But realistically hes another poor draft selection by the Hornets.

I somewhat agree.  YES, Beal, Lillard, Drummond, and Barnes all should have been taken ahead of him.

But you can’t argue that he has had a significant impact on the culture at the Hornets.

He is a role player, and thus, was paid role player money.

Beal, Lillard, Drummond, and Barnes will all likley get MAX money.

The draft is ultimately a crapshoot, and MKG had a very good freshman year at Kentucky.

A larger issue to me is the Hornets drafting 3 PF in a row.  Zeller, Vonleh and Kaminsky.  At least Kaminsky is getting minutes and his shot will eventually fall.

MKG was a risk but Barnes was a player nationally recognized at that time that I still think Charlotte should have taken. I think he’s the type of player that could benefit from being on a team like Charlotte.

I’m a big UK fan and MKG is a bust at the number two pick.  He’s a great team player, totally unselfish, but he just doesn’t have the offensive impact to warrant a number two pick.

Vonleh turned into Batum, and Kaminsky brings classic OE. Just check out his +/-. His shot falling is secondary to the impact on winning he brings by stretching the floor, even when he’s missing.

4 players are mentioned. Kaminsky, Zeller, Vonleh, MGK.

    All were bad draft choices.

Veterans saved the franchise, Like Al Jeff and Nic Batum. Add Richard Cho in the front office to that list.

Telling me MKG changed the culture of the club? Not buying it. Hea a role player…nothing more.

    Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

2011 – Don’t take Kemba who just destroyed everyone in the NCAA to win the title, take Klay Thompson or Kawhi Leonard.

2012 – Don’t take MKG, who just destroyed everyone in the NCAA to win the title, take Beal/Lillard/Drumond.

2013 –  Don’t take Zeller, who was an NCAA POY candidate, take Giannis/Noel/Gobert

    2014 – Don’t take Vonleh, take LaVine/Hood

2015 – Don’t take Kaminsky, who destroyed nearly everyone in the NCAA to nearly win the title, take Winslow/

    So, Charlotte Hornets could be

    Lillard

    LaVine

    Kawhi

    Giannis

    Keep Kaminsky

Guess what? You could literally do this with EVERY team!  Interesting trend though, Charlotte usually picks guys who have dominated in the NCAA tournament, or have had very good years.

Can you really blame them for picking solid guys?

I mean, sort of? Basically every year except maybe for Kemba, the player they took was considered flawed and a possible overdraft.

Bad drafting is bad drafting however we spin it.

    Biyombo, Morrisson…the list goes on.

Not hating on your post cos MKG is a high character guy and a good player. He will definitely add to a winning franhise culture, which is very important.

And its definitely not his fault that Charlotte had to reach to get him, just to make up for previous horrible picks.

Not worth the contract and he was not worth that pick. Its simple. He is a decent NBA player but not a 2nd pick.

I tried telling you guys this in the preseason! I only knew because I watched and attended all the terrible years when the Bobcats/Hornets ball spacing was abismal. The worst in the league. Everyone wrote them off when MKG went down but I knew they were a better team this year than last. With or without him.

I said that too and I got like 20 negs for it. Feels good to be right about a prediction.
