He was a popular player with GSW but they have just added Nick Young so that role may have gone plus there was the harassesment lawsuit that involved him which GSW may well not want revisiting.

Rockets makes most sense to me personally.

Good call, I had forgotten all about that situation.

I literally was typing the same post at the same time….I just took to long to hit save because I was eating dinner.

      Great minds think alike.

Maybe somewhere like Houston on the cheap for a year to "contend"? Replace Lou Williams in the instant offense role….add more guys who don’t care about defense.

If the Warriors didn’t just sign Nick Young (I refuse to call him that other thing) I would have said that was a perfect spot for him on the team he began his career with.

Could New Orleans be a possibility as an underdog?

NY knicks ladies and gentlemen, they were after Waiters, their bench is a joke.

Other than that, i’d say Spurs, a little back court depth.

I could see the wolves, starting 5 is super heavy now, Lavine and bazz are gone, thibs loved his combo guards in his Chicago days.

Memphis losing Z-bo off the bench, maybe a 40yo VC or Tony Allen, he could certainly help them a bit to score 90 pts a game.

Every team he leaves improves their record.  Ellis is a stat player and always has been.  No super team is going to want him.

He provides nothing but scoring and is undersized.  1 way undersized player, no thank you.  The modern NBA is all about versatility, just as bigmen that can only post up and bang are becoming fossils, so are the nothing but scorers, at least on championship teams, unless you play for D’Antoni.

He might help Cleveland more than Deron Williams or Smith and Shumpert.  They could use his offense once Kyrie hits the bench.  Cover up his D just like they cover up Kyrie.

If he’s okay with the minimum and a bench role, OKC and Cleveland can really use the shot creation off the bench.

To be honest, he may not land anywhere. There is a reason he was waived by Indiana. Hes basically an undersized 2 guard that needs the ball in his hands to be effective. He doesn’t defend well and is a below average three point shooter. The market for those types of players  isn’t exactly strong right now. He has definitely lost the burst that made him so effective at getting to the rim earlier in his career and settles for a lot of mid-range shots instead. I’m trying to think of a fit and nothing really comes to mind. It’s entirely possible his next paycheck comes from a team outside the NBA.

I am not a big Monta fan, especially later in his career, however he does play a role and that is as a bench scorer, most teams need a guy like that. If a team brings him in, explains his role and they feel confident he will be comfortable with that role than paying him on one-year “make good” deal makes sense (otherwise its the vet minimum) teams like OKC need all the shooting they can get and are pushing their chips to the middle of the table, Minny needs bench scoring, Houston needs bench scoring, Cavs could take a flier as another shooter, Pelicans need NBA quality players outside of their big-3, I could see a lot of teams kicking the tires on him with a specific role in mind.

He’s no different than Jamal Crawford, especially if you put it that way.

Mavericks finished 7th in his last season in Dallas and they finished 6th the year after he  left to answer your question.
