These three individuals are among the best in the nation, but never receive the credit they deserve, guys rather take guys like Seth curry who will be a soft ball at the pro level. Pro scouts need to be hovering over the A10 guards, there solid and they get the job done. I’m not sure why Russ smith is not on the board he’s score and defends, risky at times reminds me of Jason Terry, a gift and a curse.

Look out for these three guards to make the same impact next year in the A10 to follow the footsteps of these individuals
1. Chaz Willams (Umass)
2. Branden Frazier (Fordham)
3. Tyreek Duren (LaSalle)

Is Smith not on this site’s mock? I think he’s basically guaranteed to be a 2nd round pick. Wyatt could get drafted too, but we’ll see.

As much as I hate Temple, Khalif Wyatt is going to get drafted. He just averaged 21-4-3, and while the A-10 isn’t a powerhouse conference, it is one of the best mid-majors on the rise. His 3 point percentage is a cause for concern, but other than that, he is a gifted scorer. Could make a good career off the bench, but I don’t see him as much more than that. Likely a late first rounder, more likely in the second round. Wyatt is from the town over from where I live, so it’d be nice to see him get drafted. The 76ers tend to give the local products a look in the 2nd round (ex. his old teammate Lavoy Allen.)

Ramon Galloway has really stepped up in the tournament. He put up 21 on Boise State in the play in game, 19 on Kansas State, and 24 on Ole Miss. He shoots over 40% from the field and from three, and is shooting 83% from the line. He’s another player that could make a career off the bench as a shooter. Maybe the 76ers would look at him too as La Salle is close to Philly as well, plus the 76ers will be in need of some guards. Galloway has had to persevere through some difficult times in his life, and it would be a feel good story if he got drafted.

Russ Smith is listed as 6’1 165 lbs on ESPN. He plays like a SG, but has the body of a PG. He has been one of the top defenders in college and scores 18.4 ppg, but his size will scare off some teams. Reminds me a little bit of Scottie Reynolds’ situation a few years ago. Reynolds was a 6’2 185 lb PG, but played like a SG. It can be argued that Reynolds should have been drafted based on his collegiate performance, just like Smith is having a great college career. Smith needs to prove he can be a better passer at the next level if he wants a shot as he’ll have to play PG. There’s no way a 6’1 165 lb player could guard say a SG like Klay Thompson who has 6 inches and 40 pounds on Smith. So Smith’s pre-draft workouts will be key I think.

La Salle is very close to Philly…in fact it is in Philly. I love Ramon Galloway and he is a great story but I don’t see him getting much of a look in the NBA. He is a great shooter but he doesn’t bring much else to the table. Most guys who make in to the NBA strictly being a shooter are usually taller than 6-3 or at least more of a point guard. Galloway is playing out of his mind right now and I hope somebody gives him a chance but I don’t have much confidence that will happen. I think they will make the Elite Eight though…

It’s crazy how much the NBA has changed. I agree with what you guys are saying about Russ Smith but Allen Iverson was the same size and weight as Russ Smith and was the number one pick in a stacked NBA Draft Class lol. I’ll admit that the only footage I have seen of Iverson in college is on youtube but Smith is just as good as an athlete yet he may not even get drafted in a weak draft class. Now by no means am I saying Russ Smith is the next Allen Iverson. Just saying that they have the same measurements and are both good athletes that are undersized combo guards. My point is, if Iverson can play in the league, why can’t Smith?

Because Iverson could score 20 without hoisting 25 shots, and had elite handles. Iverson also averaged over 20 a game in his 2 yrs in college, Smith has 18 ppg this year, but last year was only at 11 ppg and only 5 ppg his first year. I’m not saying that’s bad, I’m just saying Iverson was just a lot better. Smith has to be the most reckless player I’ve ever seen, it’s like he forgets he has teammates at times (see the 5OT game vs Notre Dame) Smith isn’t NBA material. Not trying to knock on him, good college player but he’s not the 1st really good college player to never make it in the NBA, and won’t be the last.

Russ Smith has the TALENT to play in the NBA, but what ROLE would he have? What PRODUCTIVE role would he have? Maybe he could become an Avery Bradley type but other than that idk if he has a legit spot in the league.

And I’m not going to entertain the Iverson vs. Russ Smith comparison…. I don’t care if you’re only comparing the length of their fingernails, they shouldn’t be compared.

Well I guess i’ll take you guys word for it. I haven’t watched much of Russ Smith like that. Just what I have seen from the tourney. I was just assuming people were saying he is too small to play like the comment Cuseflynn made. Thats more so where the Iverson comparison came from. I still think he will get drafted

Iverson averaged 25 ppg on 48% FG, 4.7 APG, and 3.4 SPG as a sophomore. He was one of the quickest players (if not the quickest) in NBA history and was athletic enough to have been named AP Player of the Year in Virginia during his high school years as a dual threat QB.

Smith is nowhere near as productive or as athletic as AI.

Smith should be a second rounder, and could be more of a scoring PG off the bench at the next level. His ceiling is probably close to Lou Williams offensively with a bit more to add on D, which wouldn’t be too bad at all for him.

You people kill me on here, sometimes it takes heart to get it done at the next level, I’m pretty sure the first 10 picks of this draft will be trash at the next level. Please do me a favor and give props to these mid majors, by the way Damien lillard was a mid major guy, also a 4 year guy and is the rookie of the year in the NBA. Name shooting guards in this draft that will be a major force upon arrival in the pros.

They recieve the credit they deserve, at the college level, but they’re fringe pros. Scottie Reynolds, Jacob Pullen, Tu Holloway, Marcus Denmon, John Sheyer, are all similar small guards that were elite college players that failed to make the jump.

Whether you like it or not, there is a difference of styles and small combo guards are a dime a dozen. You really have to be on another level to even make it as a combo in the NBA. Look at the guys I listed, that didn’t make it. What makes Smith, Galloway, and Wyatt different?
