TC_42ParticipantThe Thunder logo is one of the worst in sports. It doesn’t mean anything… and has nothing to with Thunder. Here’s a rebranding that works a little better with Thunder (given that their actual mascot is a bison).
New logo:
And here’s one with a different colorization… you know, one that’s more stormy. When the Thunder first unveiled their color scheme, they said it was meant to evoke an Oklahoma sunset… but the name is Thunder? What?
New logo:
Home uni:
Away uni:
Court with Alt logo:
Overall, I don’t think it’s a home run… but it’s a definite improvement. Thoughts?

providencefriars1ParticipantI like the old one better. Sometimes less is more and this logo is too busy. On the other hand the new uniforms look really great except I would take out your logo on the shorts.

HitsterParticipantCertainly looks a bit better with the grey colouring and shows the power of the animal with a link into the mascot.

torontoraptors10ParticipantOklahoma used the bison/buffalo because it’s the state animal
Bison / buffalo photo © James Ownby: My View of Nature (used by permission)Buffalo
Oklahoma designated the buffalo as official state animal 1972. A bull buffalo can weigh over 1800 pounds and stand 6 foot tall at the shoulder. Buffalo once roamed the American prairie by the tens of millions and provided a way of life for the plains Indians. But European settlers hunted buffalo to the brink of extinction – it’s estimated that between 300 – 500 animals remained when the federal government passed stricter game laws in 1889.
Photo of American buffalo bull © MasterClips®The buffalo is an inseparable part of American history; no other wild animal has played such a significant role in human affairs. The tribes of the American plains relied on bison for food, shelter, clothing, and as a powerful spiritual symbol.

Tim E. O’BrienParticipantHi everybody, My name is Tim E. O’Brien and I am the creator of all of these NBA rebrands (the wiz/feds, thunder and nuggets).
While I don’t mind my work being spread throughout the interwebs (I’m told they’re a series of tubes), I would just like to make it crystal clear that TC_42 did not create these (nor has he taken credit for them) I did.
If you would like to see more or read my explanations of these redesigns, please visit my website @ TimEOBrien.com There you will find NBA, NFL, NHL and MLB redesigns and a plethora of other works I hope you enjoy.
Now to answer some Questions and Comments:
The Buffalo head from the logo’s is actually pretty heavily borrowed from the Marshall Thundering Herd’s logo so it should be clear that it’s a buffalo.
I’ve heard the bad weave comment quite a few times (that or clown wig), personally, I don’t see it haha.
The center court logo is a take on the old Supersonics logo only with OKC’s skyline and the ball takes the form of storm clouds.
Also that particular recolorization renames the team the OKLAHOMA THUNDER (note: no "city") because of the many Oklahomans who have commented on my work and say how they wished that was the team name.
Once again, I hope people find something positive from this design – especially when the real logo is so tremendously bad – and please feel free to visit my site and comment or contact me.
Cheers.
