There have only been 4 players in NBA history to record a quadruple double.  

Nate Thurmond – 22 points 14 rebounds 13 assists 12 blocks

Alvin Robertson – 20 points 11 rebounds 10 assits 10 steals 

Hakeem Olajuwon- 18 points 16 rebounds 10 assits 11 blocks

David Robinson – 34 points 10 rebounds 10 assits 10 blocks

Most of these were achieved by big men, with the only exception being Robertson who averaged more than 3 steals a game multiple times in his career.  Triple double threats like Lebron and Wade only have career highs of 7 steals and 5 blocks, respectively. Dwight Howard is a threat for a triple double with blocks, but has never notched more than 7 assists in his career, same can be said about McGee and other big shot blockers of today.

Do you guys think anyone playing today will record a triple double? I’d say the biggest threat is Chris Paul, who is very capable of getting 10 steals on a good night.  Gasol came to mind, but at 31 his production is starting to drop off a bit compared to 2 or 3 years ago.

It’s feasable given the circumstances (how the player feels that night, how many minutes he plays, how the offcials call the game, how the opposing team plays defensively, etc.), but I’ll tell you it would be a headache to do so. Trying to steal the ball/block shots in double digits while staying out of heavy foul trouble is a tough task within itself, especially in today’s game, but I digress. It is possible. I believe the last person that almost reached the Quad Dub Club was Josh Smith, so I’d say if it’s anyone that can do it, it’s most likely him or CP3.

One thing I did just stumble upon is Ricky Rubio’s quadruple double in the FIBA 16-U Championships.

JaVale McGee– averages a double double and has had a triple double already, on the right night, he could do it.  Then again, hard to get assists because Washington so terrible, unless he passes to Nick Young every time, he will shoot 30 times so that should be good for 10 assists.

Iggy– on the right night because he can do it all

Reke– same as Iggy

athletically, Westbrook has the capability and I agree that Wall can do it too.  

as far as a sleeper who is having a good year statistically that could do it….Kyle Lowry, averaging double double in pts and asts, but avg 6.5rpg and 2.5spg.

 Look how rare it is. Robinson, Robertson, and Olajuwon were all one assist away from not getting theres and would have been stuck with a triple double. I don’t see anyone outside getting this. Whoever did it would have to get a career high in steals or blocks and just happen to have a trible double of rebs, assists, and points. Pretty damn hard to do.

 I agree with Josh Smith as well.  He would be my pick for Quintuple Double, if I am saying it right.  He is good in every catagory.

to show you how good some guys were, Hakeem almost did it twice, officially Rod Thorn changed is his line (http://news.google.com/newspapers?id=yqIpAAAAIBAJ&sjid=cfADAAAAIBAJ&pg=5625,571665) so technically he didnt.  But he had 9 in the 4th column twice.

Drexler had 9 in the 4th column twice as well.

Larry Bird, Michael Ray Richardson, Rick Barry, Johnny Moore, and Larry Steele also came within 1 digit in the last column from recording a QD.

Stephen Curry is also only 158 games into his career and already has 4 games with 5 or more steals.  When they beat the Bulls he had 21, 7, 10, and 6.  If he can stay healthy and continue to develop, in Golden State’s break heavy system with Mark Jackson helping him develop as a passer, he could be a threat as well.

Still sticking with Paul though, in 08-09 before his injuries he had…33pts 10rbs 11assits 7 steals and 27 points 10 rebounds 15 assists and 7 steals in a two week span.

 Drexler was one of the most well rounded players of all times, when I think back, LBJ sort of reminds me of him in some ways.  Anyone who doesnt know about Alvin Robertson, check your history….him and Sidney Moncrief were two of the most tenacious defenders of all time, not just the 80’s.

 Good call, surve, I also uncovered this the other day while referencing some Jordan stats, but he had a 42 point 9 rebound 11 assists 8 steal game.

is an obviously choice as "most likely" to do if anyone ever does. I also think some defensive 3’s like Gerald Wallace or Nicolas Batum (w/ more PT then he is getting now) type of player could sneak in with a 12 pts 11 rebs 10 st 10 ast type of score line. Again it is not likely cuz only 4 people have ever done it, but if someone does I think it will be these type of players.

But it would def be tuff!!!  Here are 5 players that I can see accomplishing it, especially in this stat driven era, at the end of a game, if one of these ballers is close, they will go for it. Remeber…all they need is ONE GAME. * All of these players have had triple doubles and are still young & talented enough to have a RIDICULOUS statistical game…imo.

Dwight Howard Career High: Pts 45…Reb 26…Blks 10…Ast 7 (twice)

Lebron James Career High: Pts 56…Reb 19…Ast 15 (three times)… Stl 7

Rajon Rando Career High: Pts 32…Reb 15…Ast 24…Stl 8 (watched him get an easy triple double the other night against Wall)

Chris Paul Career High: Pts 43…Reb 12 (three times)…Ast 21…Stl 9

Derick Rose Career High: Pts 42 (twice)…Reb 12 (twice)…Ast 17…Stl 6

I can also see STAT hungry Javale McGee doing it maybe…although he would have to have a good assist game considering his career high is 3.

There are probably some more that could do it as well….back in the day…no question I’d pick a BIG MAN to accomplish the feat…now…if I had to choose I think it would be a guard because a player getting 10 steals seems easier to me than a player getting 10 blocks.

All in all it would be really cool to see.  I would not be stunned if it happened.  I might actually be more stunned if I never see it again in my lifetime.

Even if it is accomplised…maybe the the most remarakable SINGLE game accomplishment that I personal will ever see (saw the game LIVE on T.V) is this……

I saw the playoff Game where he had 18 boards, He can get ten assists easy, 10 points shouldnt be hard, and if it’s truely a special night for him 10 steals is a possibility. He is deffinatley my pick.

In 1995, Vlade Divac recorded quite a game:

18 points, 12 blocks, 10 assists, 9 rebounds, 5 steals

 

by the way, this stat-line (referred to as the 5×5) has been accomplished only 6 times, kirilenko did it 3x

I would pick Rondo over anybody. Its funny because sometimes in the Playoffs when he plays his heart out he can beat a team all by himself with elite rebounding, playmaking, defence, and good scoring. Overall Rondo, James, and Wall would be the best bet but anything is possible and a player getting a qaudruple double is so unrational that you cant limit anyone to the feat because even saying Lebron James can do it is unrational.

 Vlade is one of my favs and I think severly underated and overlooked.  I never understood how some people rated Kukoc over him as far as European NBA players.  Vlade could do it all.

 Everybody’s saying Rondo, and I agree. He’s got the best chance to do it with Steals. Paul could have a chance too.

As far as blocks goes, who has a chance to get 10 blocks in a game? Howard, McGee… maybe Whiteside or Favors later in their careers… Hibbert? 

 

That’s it, Roy Hibbert. He can pass, and block shots. He’s the dark horse.
