    ————————
Both players are French 18 year olds and measure at around 6’7 with a 7’3 wingspan. They seem to be amongst this years international mystery men.

Coulibaly played with Victor Wembenyama in France, although for most of the year he dominated the junior team. and when he got called up he was efficient and played good defense. He’s an excellent athlete with good size and strength for his age and can shoot the ball well. Seems like more of a forward.

Rupert played with the New Zealand Breakers this year and kind of had the opposite kind of year. I didn’t watch any NBL basketball this year but from what I understand he broke his wrist, sat out for a while and came back expected to be a 3 and D prospect while out of rhythm. Before joining the Breakers Rupert was more of a playmaker/facilitator so it was a new role for him and while he did struggle to score the ball his defensive impact was effective. Rupeert has great guard skills for a player with a 7’3 wingspan and should be able to play 1 to 4 in the NBA if he develops as planned.

I think both of these players could be reached for at around 12-20. The prospects in that area have alot of question marks where a team may decide to just draft a freak athlete instead. Right now I have Bilal Coulibaly a bit higher.

This is a tough choice. I really like Rayan Rupert. I think he will have a solid NBA career and believe in him. But I feel like Bilal is a slightly higher risk higher reward player. My gut is telling me that Bilal will have a good career too. I’d take Bilal too in a vacuum, but it’s basically even depending on team need. Bilal though if he maximizes his potential he can be special.

Both compared to OG Anunoby on this site. I had Rayan way ahead on my mock but I need to amend Bilal into the first round. Both have huge defensive potential but both are also a fair way off being NBA ready. So I don’t see Lakers, Miami, GSW at 17 to 19 really going to take either as they are all win now. But Utah , Houston , Brooklyn with their couple of picks and Portland either side of these picks could well snap up one or both of them as they would be prepared to allow them to develop.

They are the sort of players the Spurs would sign uo and stash so their 2nd rounder at 33 might be full downside for either. Could the Spurs look to move into first round if they thought Bilal being on the roster would be useful to help Wemby settle.

Thats a tough one. OG’s a legit 6’8 240 and can guard most NBA Centers (obviously not Jokic, Embiid types). I don’t think either of these players will ever get that big.

Lots of teams have multiple first rounders this year but the Spurs only have one – it is by far the most important one. But the Spurs potentially have at least 3 first rounders in 2024 and 2025 so could look to flip one of these for a pick this year if there was someone they liked

It looks like Coulibaly has played himself into the lottery after having some dominate moments in the Finals.

New Zealand Breakers majority owner Matt Walsh has been telling teams Rayan Rupert has a ‘Kobe Bryant’ work ethic and is the hardest working player he has ever seen. I mean if thats true theres not many prospects I’d take ahead of a 18 year old 6’7/7’3 wing with guard skills and a good looking jumpshot.

Personally hope Toronto ends up with one of these two players.

I can see Bilal going within the lottery and he’d be a nice fit for the Raptors. Rayan has been up and down the mock boards but he is the sort of player the Magic at 11 or Thunder at 12 could take a punt on. The Thunder have a developing roster and Chet to come in too and the Magic if they take a more NBA ready guy at 6 could reach for Rayan at 11 given how they like tall players.

It’s possible he has a promise from OKC.

I think the Jazz want Cason Wallace. He has been doing workouts with Nick Smith, I believe he did one in Washington and one in Toronto and then shut down workouts. I think Washington will pick him at 8. If the Jazz can’t pick Wallace I think they will pick Coulibaly at 9 and take their pick of guards at 16.

Coulibaly has proven he can knock down open shots and guard 1 through 4 at a high level. I watched a bit of the game he scored 15 points (its on YouTube) and he had dominate moments on both ends which completely shifted that game. Wemby got fouls early in that game and had to sit for a bit and Bilal took over while they were losing. He’s been showing an elite first step and surprisingly good ballhandling for his age. on top of mastering the 3 and D role,

I think he’s in play at 4 after Scoot and Miller are off the board.

As for Rayan Rupert I’m mocking him at 12 to OKC. They picked Ousmane Dieng at 11 last year who is friends with Rupert, also French and also played for the New Zealand Breakers. If the rumors of Ruperts work ethic being unmatched are true you might get some of that to rub off on Dieng.

Then theres Orlando who has 2 picks one before the Jazz at 6 and one before OKC at 11. They love these kinds of prospects as well and could just blow everything up for all these teams and pick both of them and I wouldn’t be one bit shocked.

As for Toronto at 13 I’m almost certain their draft board goes 1) Coulibaly, 2) Wallace, 3) Rupert. They will probably workout all the guards as a smokescreen. They also worked out Max Lewis which was who I originally thought they were targeting. So they will probably end up picking from Lewis, Smith, Bufkin basically all the guards and the wildcard here is Leonard Miller. But then Toronto has also been trying to trade up with Portland at (3) and with Houston at (4) which is why I think Coulibaly could go 4th. Thats probably who they pick if they trade up.

Should be a really interesting draft to see how all of this plays out.

Coulibaly would be a reach at 4 IMO but we’ve seen a load of names banded about as going 4th. Plus if we guess the Pistons are looking for an SF with 5th pick then Coulibaly would be in the mix there. What wold the Rockets and Raptors trade package be ?

The Rockets have a load of frontcourt potential so Siakam doesn’t make sense. OG I’d assume you’d want to keep given he is coming towards his peak unless you are looking to go for the younger version in Bilal and Barnes wouldn’t be in trade conversations as he is your future building block.

I dont think its a reach. Whitmore is getting looks at 4 as well. I’d pick Bilal over Whitmore.

I was talking to a few Pistons fans on RealGM and the talks there is no more projects or development players or question marks. They didn’t like when I suggested picking a Thompson. They seemed more content with Whitmore, Walker or Hendricks. They wanna win now and need players. Pistons fans are rowdy too.

I think the most Houston gives up is #4, #20 and Eason but Toronto would probably ask for more and thats where talks would likely stop. Siakam is an all NBA caliber player noone in that Houston frontcourt stops that deal, Harden would want to play with someone good.

If it was 4th for some deal involving Siakam who is going into last year I’d do it in a heartbeat. I think Houston could absorb Siakam’s salary and still bid for Harden in FA. If we were brutal about Houston outside of Green, Smith and Segun would anyone else not be on the trade block?

If Houston could tie Siakam down long term then I could accept the edwal. He is only 29 so has a fair few good years ahead and would be there post Harden.

If you could get a great return for Siakam then go for it. I assume FVF will be off, if you then had Barnes, OG and a high pick this year another lottery trip next year and getting lucky with the numbers could reboot Raps long term.

Toronto has to free up some cap space. FVV, Trent and Poeltl are free agents. FVV and Trent have options but they will opt out. Orlando is gonna make a huge bid for Trent and Toronto will have to match they can’t just let him walk. Free Agency should be before the draft it doesn’t make sense that its not.

If Fred and Siakam leave Barnes and OG become different players which would likely result in another play in game. unless they tanked.

Yeah, Bilal/Whitmore and Amen or even an outside shot of Jarace Walker could go #4. Drafts are so crazy. Finished my extended mock draft the other day, last few days I don’t even post it. Already out dated due to promises for Bilal and Bobi.
