Which Kentucky prospect would you take between Dillingham and Sheppard? Who’s the better prospect? Who you got? I have to sit on this one for a minute and think about who I’d take… it’s a tough one… It might depend on fit.

Rob Dillingham vs Reed Sheppard

I don’t think there is much between these two guys, same height, not much weight difference. Rob was a heavier scorer in his rookie year but Reed has a better shooting percentage and efficiency. I’m not sure who is the better off the ball or ball carrier. I think teams who are looking for a backcourt guy will look at both guys closely.

I’d have both guys in my top 10 and see them as potential 6th man of the year type players. Rob is probably more athletic but Reed is probably the better defender. I’ll go with Reed to be picked first given his shooting percentages and better defensive game.

So right now I have a top 13 prospects that should be in the lottery. Any of those players to me can go from first pick to lottery imo. Both these prospects are in this range. It’s more about fit here. Dillingham I think is a slightly better player now and better short term prospect. Reed to me is the safer pick and better long term prospect, with a stronger probability of having a longer career. Dillingham is better with the ball in his hands and will create plays and be a pest on the perimeter at least on defense. Reed I think is a better off ball prospect than on ball. His defense has been more than stellar. There are definitely cases where I’d take Dillingham first of them. He might have a better peak to his career too. But I’m going Reed Sheppard in a vacuum, I think he’s the better fit with more teams at the end of the day.
Just for the sake of conversation, another guard I think could challenge both these prospects in that same range is Jared McCain. Imo he’s been the best prospect and player at Duke for a while. I think there is a world where he could be just as good, also depending on situation.

With Rob and Reed I wonder if them being on the same team might have affected their output. Both getting more playing time on different teams might have seen them have a higher output.

If Detroit gets the top pick I don’t see them taking Rob or Reed but I could make a case for either on Charlotte, Washington, Spurs, Raptors towards the top of the draft. How a team compares the skillset Rob or Reed could bring say compared to Stephon Castle who has the size and defensive game advantage over them as well as possibly ball handling but is a far inferior scorer.

If you had R and R’s shooting in the rest of Castle’s game you’d have a likely clear top pick. I agree there are a lot of guys who could potentially go first maybe not quite 13 but I could make a case for around 10.
