Long-time nba fans will recognize the name but his son is developing into quite an nba prospect in his own right. It’s been a long time since Rutgers has produced a bona-fide nba talent but Harper could be on his way to breaking that streak and could be playing his way into the first round in 2021.
Harper is in the 6-6 6-7 range with a thick build and long arms. He is currently averaging 24 ppg, 7 rpg and shooting over 50% from 3 on over 7 attempts per game through the first 6 games for a talented and undefeated Rutgers team. He can be a matchup problem, with the size and bulk to guard bigger players, and the perimeter skills to play on the wing. He has shown some ability to create off the dribble and in the pick and roll, and has a decent playmaking skills.
The questions are if his hot shooting is a mirage and he will come back down to earth as the season progresses. He’s also only an average athlete and there are some questions about his ability to guard quicker players on the perimeter. But he has clearly emerged as a guy to keep an eye on this season.

His body is going to be a concern. There aren’t a ton of wing-ish players who look like him right now, Harden jokes aside, probably Talen Horton-Tucker or Marquette-era Jae Crowder would be the most similar, but Crowder had a bit more competitive juice defensively coming out of school. The problem is that he has been at Rutgers for three years, and general physical condition is something you would expect to get better the longer someone is in college.

Harper is a heck of a college player at the moment. He isn’t going to go the whole year shooting 60 percent from the floor and 50 from three, but I don’t think what he is doing offensively is just a hot streak. He started coming into his own last year during conference play, but the abrupt end to the season kind of killed any Harper or Rutgers buzz. He torched Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin last year too. Honestly, Rutgers is probably a more legitimate team than person would think at the moment and he might be first team All-American if he can keep Rutgers in the top 15-20.

He has a Chance to improve his Draft stock in the next 4 Games he faces Ohio State 12-23,Purdue 12-29, Iowa 1-03-21 and Michigan State 1-05-21….
Former Phi Slamma Jamma & Boston Celtics draft pick Micheal Young’s son Jacob a 6’2 senior is also on the team….Young also has a shot to play at the next level, except his age might hurt him,he will be 24 next year….

He actually reminds me a little of Dudley from his BC days. Better off the dribble though. Not quite as good of a defender.
