The 2000 Draft Class is the weakest draft class of the millenium. Why? Do I need to explain it? Well, let me start first that only 3 players in this class have went to appear in an All-Star Game each made only once, only Hedo Turkoglu and Mike Miller achieved individual awards, and only a handful of first rounders are playing in the NBA today. Heck even Sports Illustrated named the entire draft class as a total unique bust… A rare sight considering you name a bust individually. If I were to rate the 2003 draft class, it would be A+, but this draft? It’s a big F… But let’s break down the top 10 players that made this draft class a total bust… Which should be ranked number 1? Let’s see…

    10. Darius Miles (3rd overall pick by LAC)- Hear me out why this guy slipped into the top 10. He just simply didn’t make it. He is an athletic small forward with a huge upside whom people compared to as the “next Tracy McGrady”. But his problems off the court and his lack of interest in improving thyself is worth mentioning as one of the bust in this draft class. Yes, you don’t normally see him being a top 20 bust of all-time but he just simply underachieved whether he was with the Clips, the Cavs though he did show flashes of brilliance at Portland(including a 47 point barrage against Denver), he never really turned into a threatening force as injuries nearly ended his career at the age of 27…(though he did make the Grizzlies roster)

    9. Chris Mihm (7th overall pick by CHI traded to CLE for Jamal Crawford)- Usually, you’d expect guys like Chris Mihm to be solid role players. Though he did show that during his Laker day, injuries were too much for this center as he struggled to find his game even until today.

    8. Joel Pryzbilla (9th overall pick by HOU traded to MIL)- I know he lasted long enough to be still in the league and that’s because it is rare to have a big man his size nowadays. Still, 9th pick yet averaged only 4 ppg and 6 rpg during his 9 year career? That’s pretty much it for Pryzbilla. Though he did had a game where he notched a game high 17 points and 25 rebounds… That was cool but that doesn’t keep him off this list…

    7. Etan Thomas (12th overall pick by DAL)- Etan’s comparison was Antonio Davis… That’s pretty much a solid one comparing their size and the ability to bang. But being a 12th pick means you have to have a solid NBA career… A 10 and 9 career would do but Thomas ended up being a 6 and 5 guy… Not that bad but not that good when you’re the 12th pick.

    6. Dermarr Johnson (6th overall pick by ATL)- He was a star in high school and has that freakish athleticism that everyone could have said that he could have been the Rudy Gay before Rudy Gay or Danny Granger before Danny Granger… But an accident nearly cost him his life and he never fully recovered. Though, still just before his accident he just averaged 7 ppg and 3 apg in his 2 seasons with the Hawks which is obviously uninspiring. He is still trying to find a team that could want him.

    5. Courtney Alexander (13th overall pick by ORL traded to DAL)- This one I could never understand. Alexander is a pretty good scorer. He is sorta like a Courtney Lee type that can help a team off the bench in terms of scoring but why are teams unnterested with him? I remember when Rip Hamilton was injured and Michael Jordan was out for the Wizards, Courtney was the main contributor and erupted for 32 points in a thrilling lost to Detroit… He also set up a career-high 33 against the Raptors. He is a pretty decent scorer but he didn’t last in the NBA that long. Quite puzzling for me…

    4. Mateen Cleaves (14th overall pick by DET)- He was a hero back in his college years at Michigan State but it never transcend into the pros as he struggled to fit in with the best. He is still hoping and praying that he may find an NBA team that could want him. He is currently in the D-League now.

    3. Jerome Moiso (11th overall pick by NJN)- Being compared as the “next Kevin Garnett” will always put pressure on someone. Some might live up to it and some don’t. Sadly, Moiso joins the rank of those who failed to live up to the hype and was out of the league after jumping from team to team trying to find a comfort. He is currently in the Euroleague looking for answers.

    2. Stromile Swift (2nd overall pick by VAN)- I would have put Stromile in the #1 list thinking that he has less impact than the number 1 but that may be a little bias on my part and since he is still in an NBA roster. But yeah, Stromile Swift is definitely in the bust discussion. He has had an underachieving NBA career, a pretty disappointing result when you’re a guy being compared to Shawn Kemp (no doubt about it since they both have nasty repertoirs including dunks). Stro never lived up to the hype as his best season was his second season averaging 11.8 ppg. He is currently signed by the Sixers.

    1. Marcus Fizer (4th overall pick by CHI)- Fizer was a beast at Iowa St. He was the best prospect that has a similar game to Sir Charles. But the thing about him was, he was way too undersized for his natural PF position and is too slow to keep it up with SF’s in the league. At 6’8, 260, he’s going to be in trouble. Though he did have a pretty solid career with Chicago including a 20-20 game and a career 12 ppg before tearing his ACL, he never found his niche. He was picked in the Bobcats expansion draft in which he hoped to dominate ther but never made the roster which was a surprise on my part. He bounced from team to team before suiting up with the D-League’s Austin Toros and won the D-League MVP. He went to Europe and hoped to find luck there but he never did.

2000 was supposed to be a great year and a great start but looking back at it now, we can definitely say that they are byfar the worst draft class of the millenium… No offense, Michael Redd, K-Mart, Hedo…

I’ll tell you right now, I’ve watched my bruins for about 15 years now, and Jerome Moiso is the seond best pro prospect I’ve seen other then Baron Davis. I had Jerome being better then guys like Love, Westbrook, and all of them. He had everything. he was athleitc 6-11, could post up shoot, block shots. I think he went 11th and I thought that was a steal. He sure dissapointed me.

Courtney ALexander was another dissapointment. I remember when Jordan claimed he would be a future all-star for the wizards after they drafted him.

Courtney Alexander played for Dallas as a rookie and was drafted by the Magic.

That puzzled me ll because Courtney was a good scoring guard… He can score but I couldn’t understand why he’s sitting at the end of the bench when everyone knows he can play better. Moiso was a good prospect and yes, he had that KG-like game back with UCLA but I guess it never really translated well in the League…

Stromile Swift got waived by the Sixers today. He has no team now. Does he become #1 on your list now?

id subtract joel from there..hes a pretty good center as far as defense is concern which is what he was drafted for anyway. and ive never seen him on any other bust list..also ethan thomas has been a pretty good player..hes been pretty solid actually..nothing spectacular esspecially in the stats department but plays good d and a solid player off the bench. demarr had only played 2 years before his accident so i dont think he should be on that list either unless bust are judged on 2 years of playing..if thats the case alot more players should be on that list
