NorrinRaddParticipantPorzingis looks like is going to Boston for Brogdon going to the Clippers, for draft compensation and some bags of azz to the Wizards per Shams.
then there’s the trade of Pacers/Nuggets 29+32 = 40 + 2024 1st round

HitsterParticipantI’m surprised the Pacers have done this deal as I thought they may have looked to package their picks to move up this year. But if Pritchard and co want to spread their draft options I’m not going to argue.
Denver had got into this year’s draft and have done so again, there must be some players they like who are NBA ready as their timeline would be different to the Pacers. They will still be a decent destination for veterans as defending champions so can also add some ring chasers or stoners for veteran’s minimum.
Porzingis will be a good pick up for the Celtics he may not have turned out to be Wemby but he is still a still big man and gives them extra frontcourt size especially as Al Horford is 37 years old now. They give up Brogdon but it potentially frees up cash next summer with Jaylen Brown’s extension due.
Brogdon is a great pick up for the Clippers and can take big minutes from the bench so is a no brainer pick up for them.
Washington get an extra first rounder and get a return on Porz, they will draft BPA with their top first rounder and can take an upside punt with 30th pick. Kuzma has opted out so Washington will hit rebuild button and likely look to take on salary dumps and go with a younger roster. They will I assume look to be high lottery next year as it looks a likely 25 win at best team at the moment IMO.

NorrinRaddParticipantwow, trade probably not going through anymore due to Brogdon’s injury concerns. Crazy day.

ZouldiersParticipantKristaps Porzingis Trade
Celtics Get: Kristaps Porzingis, #25th pick, 2024 1st (via GSW)
Wizards Get: Tyus Jones, #35th pick
Grizzlies Get: Marcus Smart1+ - Posted on: Wed, 06/21/2023 - 6:02pm #1260835
zolaParticipantThis is amazing deal for Grizzlies. Unlike Tyus Jones, Smart can also play in the same lineup with Ja. Jones and Kennard earnes almost 30 million as backups, but they are still unreliable in playoffs. Smart can cover their minutes for 20 million in a much better way. Grizzlies don’t need more rookies anyway, so two picks is not a big cost. Now they need to pack Brandon Clark or Luke Kennard and David Roddy or Ziaire Williams or Jake LaRavia and future pick even two for wing defender like Dorian Finney-Smith or Deandre Hunter and they will be ready for title contending (if Ja comes to sense).
Risky move for Celtics, but they need to do something. They are more balanced now. This two picks will mean them more than to Memphis.
Another low return for Wizards, but better than for Beal.
1+ - Posted on: Wed, 06/21/2023 - 6:30pm #1260836
HitsterParticipantTHe deal pivoted and the Celtics to give up Smart who was their glue guy and longest serving player is a gamble but Porz could be the frontcourt difference maker and the old Red Auerbach saying you can never have enough picks still rings true with Brad Stevens.
Washington end up with a lower pick but Tyrus Jones gives then an experienced PG to run the plays or mentor a young PG they may draft if we assume CP3 will be be traded or bought out.
Smart is a great pick up for Memphis and if Ja can get his act together he has 3 All defensive selecions alongside him so their mix looks even better next season.

OhCanada-ParticipantIts a risky move for the Celtics but I guess they feel in order for Tatum to fully take over as the leader there they had to get rid opf the big dog Marcus Smart, and they got a hel;l of a haul for him too. How the hell did they get Porzingis and two 1sts? Not sure it ends up workingh out for them but they still have Brogdon who I feel is one of the best PG’s in the league and was clearly the best reserve last year so it makes sense.

0 - Posted on: Thu, 06/22/2023 - 6:33am #1260882
HitsterParticipantI never saw Smart as the top dog in Boston he was more the 3rd cog behind Tatum and Brown almost like Draymond to the Splash Brothers.
I cannot believe CP3 has been flipped and the Wizards have got picks and Poole for him. If they had flipped Beal for Poole and that haul it would have made sense.

NorrinRaddParticipantLook out for PG13 to possibly be traded. I think the Clippers might go a different direction.

NorrinRaddParticipantThat was crazy.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 06/22/2023 - 7:29pm #1260887
HitsterParticipantHouston getting Amen and Cam gives them a great young core along with Green, Smith and Segnun .
Charlotte had a good night getting Nick Smith at 27 and then Bailey and Nnaji in the second round. after deciding on Miller at 2.
Danny Ainge scored another home run with his 3 first round picks for Utah.
I’m not sure about Jett Howard at 11 for the Magic, it seems a bit high.
Dallas add serious frontcourt size and got Holmes from Sac-Town for veteran presence there too.
Portland got a future perfect building block in Scoot and Kris Murray gives them an NBA ready option too. Also Rayan Rupert falling to 43 could be the draft steal of the night for them.
I wonder if Oh Canadawill get one of Gradey’s funky jackets but he is a good choice for them at 13.
Detroit I assume will look to use Ausar T at SF given their backcourt young talent so them taking Sasser as well was a bit strange.
Keyontae and Emoni both got drafted which was good to see.
TJD way down at 57 for the Warriors could be a steal too.
Sanogo missing out was perhaps the biggest shock and him not returning to UConn might make him the biggest loser for those who declared.
1+ - Posted on: Thu, 06/22/2023 - 10:29pm #1260893
BothTeamsPlayedHard-ParticipantWith Timme, Tshiebwe, and Sanogo all going undrafted, and there being chatter about whether they should have gone back to college, I think it is fair to point out for each guy “going back” would have been weird. For Oscar, he would be returning to Kentucky, but would be on an almost entirely new team. He didn’t seem to always love his teammates this past season, but Toppin, Fredrick, Wheeler, Collins, Wallace, and Livingston are all gone. I believe Reeves is still in the transfer portal. He didn’t exactly play a ton of minutes with Brennan Canada, Adou Thierro, or Ugonna Onyenso. He would be a 5th year senior looking to win a title surrounded by freshmen trying to get into the NBA. Timme would have had Nolan Hickman and Malachi Smith back with him, but Rasir Bolton, Julian Strawther, Anton Watson, Hunter Sallis, and Elton Reid are gone. I think it is easier for guys to go back to a team when they are still with their guys, and everything with be familiar and comfortable. For both guys, it would have been challenging situations. Sanogo is a little different, because he went out on top. I think it is similar to Kyle Guy entering the pro ranks following Virginia’s title. If UConn loses Jackson and Hawkins, it would be hard to match last season. If teams are predisposed to liking a guy, returning to school and improving is a pathway to getting drafted higher. If teams are dismissive of your chances, a guy can improve his skillset and still be in the same boat. At 6’8″ and almost 260 lbs, I suspect even if Adama was to return to school and play next year at 240-245 lbs. and be a little more nimble, he wouldn’t necessarily get a guaranteed contract. Kyle Guy could have been 25 PPG 50-40-90 sniper had he returned, but still would have been a slight 6’1″ shooting guard in the eyes of the NBA.
Sanogo signed a two-way with Chicago. With Andre Drummond, Tony Bradley, and Marko Simonovic all likely heading out, it is not necessarily a bad spot for him to find a way to hang around the league. If his shot continues to come around, maybe he can be a Naz Reid-style backup center who stylistically can run the same stuff the team does with Vucevic on the court. I was a little surprised Timme could only muster an Exhibit-10 contract with Milwaukee. I would have figured with the additional third two-way contract that some team would have offered him one. No word on Oscar yet, but I have stated that I have a hard time seeing how Tristan Thompson keeps finding jobs in the NBA but the NBA thinks so little of Oscar. I don’t see the difference in body or style. It can’t just be that Tristan is a good hang.
1+- Posted on: Thu, 06/22/2023 - 10:39pm #1260894
NorrinRaddParticipantTotally agree with everything you said. At least the NILs give those prospects the option though… And yeah all those prospects would be weird going back to school. Like the Naz Reid comparison. Oscar could be a dawg in the right situation.

HitsterParticipantGreat analysis as always Norrin, guys like Sanogo, Timme would also have an option to go overseas as they were proven at NCAA level. They could be beasts in the EuroLeagues where their games may be better suiited and they would be more appealing than a high upside project who didn’t get drafted.
Zach Edey would be another guy who could be undrafted but would be a beast overseas. Talking of Euroleagues would Papagiannis ever get another look at the NBA I wonder ? Also good to see Edy Tavares is inot missing an angel and is dominant with Real Madrid.
With Dereck Lively if he’d had a more productive season at Duke I could have seen him going top 5 as he clearly impressed in his workouts and you cannot teach that size or athleticism.
1+ - Posted on: Mon, 06/26/2023 - 3:13am #1260929
NorrinRaddParticipantwow, Jazz trade Rudy Gay and a 2nd for John Collins. ATL gets 25.3 million dollar trade exception.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 06/26/2023 - 4:56am #1260930
HitsterParticipantThe Hawks have made a salary cap dump in effect although that exception may be useful in due course.
The Jazz have just drafted Hendricks but it makes sense to add Collins as he will be an experienced starting PF and it gives Hendricks time to develop from the bench. Walker Kessler is only going into his his second season so Collins alongside hm rather than Hendricks makes sense there.
The team will have minutes to spread around the foward positions so guys will get minutes from the bench.
1+- Posted on: Mon, 06/26/2023 - 5:42am #1260932
NorrinRaddParticipantThey’ll go huge in lineups with Markkanen too.
0
- Posted on: Mon, 06/26/2023 - 6:48am #1260933
HitsterParticipantYep Markkanen at 3, Collins/Hendricks 4 and Kessler/Collins 5 with Olynk to see minutes too.
Utah can easily absorb Collins’ salary and still have all those draft picks due so will be in a good position going forward.
1+- Posted on: Thu, 06/29/2023 - 2:03am #1260967
OhCanada-ParticipantOnce you get past Collins contract which isn’t actually that bad Collins is very servicable player. Especially in this scenerio. The Jazz have the most versatile frontcourt in the NBA. They have every kind of big and aside from Markkanen dont need to play anyone more than 30 minutes per game.

NorrinRaddParticipantRumor is FVV and Dillon Brooks are going to Houston.

1+- Posted on: Thu, 06/29/2023 - 3:51am #1260976
NorrinRaddParticipantLakers look like they’re moving on from Mo Bamba and Malik Beasley. I got mixed feelings about what the Lakers are doing atm. Their roster does look better than beginning of last season though.

NorrinRaddParticipantClippers just waived Eric Gordon… looks like they really want Harden. All these contenders want Harden. I don’t think he gets a chip.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 06/29/2023 - 7:48am #1260993
HitsterParticipantWhat return do Philly get and can they rebuild around Embeast or do they cash in on him and start the process again?
They only have Joel and PJ Tucker (player option) under contract for guaranteed money in 24/25 so they can pivot either way.
1+- Posted on: Thu, 06/29/2023 - 8:10am #1260994
NorrinRaddParticipant76ers are in an interesting predicament to say the least.
0
- Posted on: Thu, 06/29/2023 - 4:58pm #1260996
HitsterParticipantPhilly with no real salary around Embeast will be a FA option for players or they can cash in on him and look to get a good return as he has three guaranteed years left on his deal and is the MVP. Hitting rebuild is complicated by 2025 and 2027 firsts having been traded. Okay they get assets for Embiid but the 2025 first if high gives OKC another great asset.
The next first rounder they can move themselves is 2029 if they looked to do something with Tobias Harris’ expring deal. The key could be what return they get for Harden and what Embeast wants to do.
2+ - Posted on: Thu, 06/29/2023 - 6:27pm #1260997
NorrinRaddParticipantI would press reset and get a huge haul for Embiid if it was up to me. They are kind of stuck with him. They’re not quite good enough to go anywhere with him in the post season. Without him they could probably get an entire team of picks. Embiid’s in his prime now. Tomorrow isn’t here forever and he’s a vet now. Might not be a popular decision but that’s how I’d go about it.
1+ - Posted on: Thu, 06/29/2023 - 7:32pm #1260998
OhCanada-ParticipantI don’t think losing Harden is a big deal for Philly. Maxey is ready to go for sure. He may not be there yet but he has the confidence, mentality, whatever you wanna call it to one day lead the league in points. Melton is probably the most under used player in the league. He would really thrive in a larger role. Even Furkan Korkmaz can give them rotation minutes. And Tobias Harris shouldn’t be a spot up shooter, it takes him out of the game. Philly is probably better without over relying on Harden.
Now Embiid is a problem. Hes a monster in the 1st round but he just isnt built for deep playoff runs. He plays dirty and when teams hit back he gets injured and fatigued then turns into a perimeter shooter and a pylon on D. It has’t changed, even in his mvp form. I dont think you win with him being the guy.
1+ - Posted on: Thu, 06/29/2023 - 7:39pm #1260999
OhCanada-ParticipantBooker and Ayton for Embiid.
1+- Posted on: Thu, 06/29/2023 - 7:55pm #1261000
NorrinRaddParticipantThat could be a fair trade, ironically both teams still have not draft capital. Probably would improve both teams slightly though.
