sportspolymathParticipantIn terms of draft picks for the 2017 draft, if the Knicks were to trade him. A general question.

OhCanada-ParticipantOutside of the lottery for sure.

thetruth87ParticipantThe Knicks got a mid 1st round pick for Tim Hardaway Jr. when his value was at an all time low. So I wouldn’t doubt anything, but I think a mid-late 1st rounder could be attainable. But he’s one of the few bright spots on the team so I doubt they would trade him anyway.

BallerScriptParticipant18 to 24 range maybe. That sounds reasonable.

binetParticipantWilly is playing reasonably good. But he is an old rookie at about 23 and seemingly undersized (listed 6’11" but seemingly shorter, ostensibly an inch or 2 shorter than Jahlil Okafor, with average wingspan at 7’1" possibly inflated as well) and is not playing like a legit starter in this league at all with limited upside. I would honestly prefer someone like Richaun Holmes to Willy, who has similar to better play value already and more upside despite being older.
I don’t think you can get a first rounder for him honestly, and you should keep him rather than take an early secound rounder imo.

OhCanada-ParticipantI thought the sane thing but it seems accurate. He was listed as 2.08 meters before coming over to the NBA. Thats about 6’9.5. Europe usually lists height without shoes as well. They listed Porzingis as 7’1 and now hes apparently 7’3. Could come down to how he stands or whatever type of shoes hes wearing but either way it would be hard to believe hes any shorter than 6’10 in shoes with a 7’0 wingspan.
Hernangomez is solid. His defense isnt great but I mean he plays for the Knicks. Even Courtney Lee looks like a terrible defender on that team. He is averaging 7.5 points and 6 rebounds per game in 16 minutes per game. Pretty solid numbers even on a bad team.

HitsterParticipantFor his age and performances, he has a very cap friendly contract so would certainly be of interest to any contenders but their picks are late first round generally. A team with cap issues may look at him. Portland spring to mind, currently they own 12th, 20th and 27th picks this year. I don’t see them giving up 12th pick but potential 20th pick would be the sort of value I’d say is fair.
But would Knicks be any better trading a nice squad player for a mid to late first rounder? The depth of the draft around 18 to 25 is always questionable, you get some gems but also some duds.

machu46ParticipantI think you might be able to get a late 1st round pick for him, but I don’t know why you would really. Seems like a guy worth hanging onto and hoping he develops some more.

sportspolymathParticipantI am not saying the Knicks should trade him, but on another message board I am on someone asked what his value was? I responded with 17-24, but others were saying as high as 7, and I wanted to get a non Knick fans opinion. That’s why.

OhCanada-ParticipantWell I think the obvious thing here is he is performing well so he wouldnt be traded for an unknown commodity unless the value was an unrefusable offer. With that being said teams probally wouldnt offer a 1st round draft pick because this draft has talented bigs available through the 2nd round. I would assume teams would rather draft a player and mold him through thier own principals and guidance rather than use that pick to acquire a player in his sophmore season coming from an organization that he probally picked up some bad habits from. They wluld probally get offers in the late 20’s which is not enough.
Either way the Knicks probally wouldnt accept an offer that was outside of the lottery because he is one of the few bright spots on thst team. He played with Porzingis in Spain and it should help him stay grounded having him there and trading him would like upset the Unicorn.
To awnser the question definitively I would say his value is 15-22 but Im pretty high on him and think bigs can still be used well in today’s NBA.
The Knicks would probally need a special offer to trade him so they would probally say not later than 14.
The rest of the teams in the NBA would not reach for him with guys like Swanigan, Motley, Adebayo etc. in this draft and somebody likely to fall luke last year with Labissiere, Stone and Davis. So they would likely say 25-35. If that.
The value of interior oriented bigs has dropped substantially as seen recently with Noel. Even if he was on the block its probally something that wouldnt get done because of conflicting interests and values.

HitsterParticipantSo OhCanada would you have been happy if the Raps had got a falsely high pick this year like they had last year and had flipped it for someone like Hernangomez who has that attractive deal and looks a solid NBA player already,
0- Posted on: Mon, 03/27/2017 - 2:31pm #1094582
OhCanada-ParticipantWow that contract is ridiculous. 4 years $6 mil. Highway robbery.
Raps have Poeltl, Valanciunas, Ibaka, and Siakam that can all play C so its not a good comparison. They wouldnt make that deal.
But if its a player Patrick Mccaw or Taurean Prince yes Id be happy.

r377ParticipantThe Knicks did good on draft day. They aquired Hernangomez who is actually teammates with Porzinga. This will be great for chemistry both on and off the court. Will be hard in a foreign country whose fans are so fickle…
I don’t see him getting traded at all – I think he can be an NBA starter for the Knicks
