 Hey guys,

Out of the 5 starting positions we have in our beloved game today… Which is the most important to the success of a team. I’m not thinking of players just what each position’s textbook role is.

The point guard: Being a good floor general, a good shooter and a good perimeter defender. 

The shooting guard: Being a good scorer, perimeter defender.

The Small Forward: Being a good overall player.

The Power Forward: Being a good rebounder, paint protector, scorer in the paint and shooter up to 15 feet.

The Center: A big bodied physical player who rebounds well, cleans up mistakes, defends the key and scores in the post.

Ofcourse we have exceptions to the rule like score first point guards, tweeners, and guys who just excel at only one thing but out of each respective position and their textbook abilites, will position is the most important in deciding the outcome of the game. Imagine the 4 others players from the positions you don’t pick being scrubs.

Easily point guard. The point guard runs the show, controls the tempo, gets everyone involved, is the the leader on the court. Look at what Chris Paul did for the hornets they overachieved very year with him and took la to 6 game two years ago without their second best player David west. You can also say Lebron was the point guard in Cleveland as he led his team in assists and was the main ball handler. His teams vastly overachieved also.

The game is best played from the inside out, so I’d say center. History shows that teams that have centers who can dominate the paint at both ends win rings.

 a good big will be better to start a franchise,

i mean if someone lets me choose between Olajawun and Stockton, i’ll pick Hakeem Olajawon hands down, A Center Franchise player can easily turn around a bad franchise, its also rare to see a skilled big, ofcourse the main asset of a center is that they are tall, as coaches said, "You can’t teach Hieght"

the point guard.  A good point orchestrates a good free-flowing offense.  The ball starts out in the hands of the point guard most often.  Other players rely on the point to get them the ball.  The point guard pressures the ball up top and dictates his team’s tempo as well.  I think a perfect example of why the point guard is the most important position on the floor is Chris Paul.  Without Paul running the show, the Clips are lost.  When Paul goes to the bench, their offense is pretty terrible.  How good would Blake Griffin be if Paul wasn’t throwing hims oops all game?

Chris Paul is great, but the reason the Clippers are so lost without him is because they’re overrated. Not only that, Del Negro sucks as a coach and his offensive sets are garbage.

And as far as Griffin… The lob is exciting, but I think he was a better player before Paul got there.

I think it’s always the center for the way they are the anchors (or point guards?) of the defense, plus rebounding and low-post scoring.

High quality big men are more rare, and thus usually have a greater impact. However, when it comes down to ‘importance’, meaning the catalyst of success the PG wins.

When was the last time a point guard was the best or even second best player on a championship team? I guess Tony Parker in 2007 and Chauncey Billups in 2004 and both of them are score first point guards to a certain degree. I’m not discounting the position of course, but just something to think about. (No Rondo was not the 2nd best player on the 2008 celtics team don’t kid yourself)
