He came to America to spend a year playing in the D-League so US scouts could see him and so any bias against him being Greek would be gone. He did even though he was offered to play with the Italian Euroleague club Siena, which means he lost a huge amount of money to do this.

But still after a year, he shows as still in 2nd round of all these mocks. The arguing was he was not really that athletic because of playing in Greek 2nd division "made him look more athletic than he was"………..

But he played in D-League and looked probably as most overall athletic player in whole D-League. So this is all proven as BS.

He was said to be "so raw". But he showed he can shoot, he can dribble, he can pass, he can play multiple positions on offense and defense, and he can even play as a point guard or point forward if needed.

And of course all that nonsense about the level of competiton of Greek 2nd division was already proven to be a myth and nonsense as was explained last year, by how Giannis did this year in NBA.

And that the numbers Giannis has in NBA were almost as good as the numbers he had in Greek 2nd division.

So the question is how come Thanasis is not seen as a first round pick? A serious case can be made for him being most athletic player in D-League and most athletic player in the draft……..

and he also has basketball abilities and skills. He is a great defender, and he can shoot, create his own shot, create shots for others, handle the ball, etc.

It really makes no sense why he would be so low in so many of these mocks. I see in some mocks he is not listed and in others he is on low 50s. In some like this site and others, he is in mid to low 40s.

This makes no sense how such a freak athlete (certainly he is more athletic than Giannis is) that has ability to pass, handle the ball, shoot, create his shot, play make, is a great defender……..is seen as just a low 2nd round pick, or maybe not even drafted at all?

Anyway, here is some clips of what he can do, just showing athleticism, but he can do much more than this. He HAS skills and basketball abilities to. He just needs to develop his fundamentals, but most of the players listed in the first round on the mocks do as well, so that isn’t really an explanation as to why he would be out of the first round.

Why are D-League players draft eligible?  That makes no sense to me.  All of the teams have at least one NBA affiliate.

Before you can "sign" to an NBA team or be considered a "free agent" to the NBA you have to be draft eligible and enter an NBA draft. That way a team can fairly (within the system) own the rights to a basketball player if they choose to. If the player is drafted the team drafting the player owns the rights to offer that player a contract if not they become a "free agent" and can thus be signed by any team.

Thanasis cannot be signed because he has not entered a draft.

I like him as a prospect.  I would be happy if one of my teams got him in the second round…  isn’t he older though? Like 23?

While he’s not 23, Thanasis is 2 1/2 years older and three inches shorter than his brother. Age matters to GMs, look at what happened to Shabazz after it was revealed he’s a year older than we all thought. If your team is looking for a developmental athlete in the late first, they’d probably look at Jeremi Grant. Not saying they SHOULD, of course.
