Syracuse, N.Y. — Taurean Thompson, a Top 100 prospect in the Class of 2016, will wait until the late signing period before deciding on a college, according to his mother.
Thompson, a 6-foot-10 senior at Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H., will hold on his decision rather than make a commitment during the upcoming early signing period, which begins on Nov. 11.
Thompson's mother, Sherese Piper, said Thompson would "most likely be signing late'' in a text message to syracuse.com on Thursday morning.
Thompson is the only player in the 2016 class that the Syracuse coaches are currently recruiting.
Syracuse already has commitments from two players in the class of 2016: Tyus Battle, a 6-foot-6 guard at St. Joseph's High School in Metuchen, N.J., and Matthew Moyer, a 6-8 forward at South Kent (Conn.) Prep.
Despite having just two commitments, Syracuse's class is ranked No. 13 in the country, according to Scout.com.
Scout.com has Battle ranked No. 24 in the class with Moyer at No. 74. Thompson is at No. 90 on Scout.com's list.
A New York City native, Thompson spent the last three years at St. Anthony High School in Jersey City, N.J. He has already made an official visit to Syracuse. He also attended SU's Orange Madness.
Thompson has also officially visited Xavier and taken unofficial visits to Seton Hall, Rutgers, Temple and St. Joseph's. He had been interested in SMU, but cancelled a visit there when the NCAA announced sanctions against the school's basketball program.
