Medina, Chagrin Falls among locals to win district titles; Green's 24-game win streak ends: boys basketball district final roundup (poll)

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Several area boys basketball teams won district championships on Saturday.

Here is a roundup of some highlights from Saturday's action as well as access to all scores.

Medina 45, Massillon Jackson 43

COPLEY, Ohio – Jon Teske earned a triple double to help lead the Medina boys basketball team to a 45-43 upset against top-seeded Massillon Jackson on Saturday in the Division I Copley District final.

Teske led Medina, seeded No. 10, scoring 27 points, 12 rebounds and 10 blocks.

Jackson was led in scoring by Kyle Young with 14.

St. Edward 56, Berea-Midpark 41

BROADVIEW HEIGHTS, Ohio – Kipper Nichols led the St. Edward boys basketball team to a 56-41 victory against Berea-Midpark on Saturday with 22 points to win the Division I Broadview Heights District.

Mike Ryan chipped in 10 for St. Edward, seeded No. 2.

No. 4 Berea-Midpark was led in scoring by Jamie Bloxson with 13.

Uniontown Lake 54, Green 41

CANTON, Ohio – The Green boys basketball team ended its season on Saturday after falling to Uniontown Lake, 54-51, in the Division I Canton District final.

The loss for Green, seeded No. 2, snapped the Bulldogs' perfect season and 24-game win streak.

Central Catholic 61, Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy 40

Chagrin Falls 66, Lake Catholic 61

ASHTABULA, Ohio – The Chagrin Falls boys basketball team captured its fourth district title since 1970 on Saturday after defeating Lake Catholic, 66-61, in the Division II Ashtabula District final.

Jack Kayro led Chagrin Falls, seeded No. 2, scoring 16 points followed by Sawyer McGuire with 14.

No. 1 Lake Catholic was led in scoring by Ryan Russell with 19.

Holy Name 65, Vermilion 50

NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio -- The Holy Name boys basketball captured its first district championship since 1953 after defeating Vermilion 65-50 in the Division II North Ridgeville District championship.

Freshman Dwayne Cohill led Holy Name, seeded No. 3, scoring 25 points followed by senior Lawrynce Johnson with 20.

No. 4 Vermilion was led in scoring by Kyle Nader 26.

St. Vincent-St. Mary 72, Buchtel 51

CANTON, Ohio -- Jayvon Graves and Johnnie Robinson led the St. Vincent-St. Mary boys basketball team to a 72-51 victory on Saturday defeating Buchtel in the Division II Canton district final.

Josh Williams and Jibri Blount chipped in scoring for St. Vincent-St. Mary, seeded No. 1, with 14 points each.

No. 3 Buchtel was led in scoring by Talen Sims with 17.
