Cedar Springs center Brad Brechting commits to Oakland University

Cedar Springs senior center Brad Brechting committed to Oakland University on Saturday.

During his junior season with the Red Hawks, Brechting averaged 15.5 points per game on 61 percent shooting to go along with 9.2 rebounds, 1.1 steals and 3.0 blocks per game. Cedar Springs fell to Rockford 59-55 in a Class A pre-district matchup last March. Brechting had 33 points, 21 rebounds and six blocks against the Rams.

Brechting had drawn interest from a number of Division I colleges and universities, including scholarship offers from Central Michigan and Cleveland State.

In addition, Brechting had made official recruiting visits to Michigan, Michigan State and Western Michigan. He also had been scouted by Purdue, Virginia Tech, Northwestern, Toledo, Dayton and Vanderbilt.

The senior is the No. 7-ranked recruit in the state and No. 47 at his position by ESPN.com.
