FreelanceScoutParticipantHere in the Philippines we are serious about the game of Basketball, whether in the street or in the stadium – they’ve been known to often carry on playing ball come rain or shine.
We have a channel called Basketball TV and NBA premium channel. And this posted by Kevin Durant on facebook speaks for itself
I heard Lithuanian sports fans are absolutely bananas about Basketball too.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantI hope someday, basketball becomes a sport like soccer (futbol).
I would love to see players around the world and multiple premier leagues as well as intercontinental/international tournaments.

FreelanceScoutParticipantFIBA will implement a Home and away format starting 2016 I think just like soccer. I’m very hoepful that it will boost the popularity of basketball in other countries

frogmanParticipantYeh I got a massive shock when going to the Philippines. I just went on a trip around Southeast Asia and all those countries just loved football but when I got to the Philippines it was ridiculous – every airport had basketball games on while we waited, you walk the street and there are barefoot kids playing basketball on rocks and dirt and when we get to our hotel there are like a minimum of 3 games on at any one time. You guys sure do love your basketball. Pity no one in the Philippines was above about 5 foot 5. I’m 6 foot 1 and was a walking giant.

Anton123ParticipantBasketball is pretty big in Russia. Not as much people watch it (it’s probably third behind football and hockey), but it’s a close second behind football in terms of being played.
The basketball community is also much better organized than the football community here.0 - Posted on: Tue, 06/04/2013 - 7:16pm #790599

Jr. ROXASParticipantI love it a fellow Filipino on this site. Filipinos just love basketball so much the only problem is, and it is well-documented is that we lack height. Not to be arrogant but in the southeast asia, filipinos are the gods of basketball. I know we are quite far off from the talent level of the United States or some Europeans like the Russians, Spaniards, Serbians to name some but if we develop more tall talented bigmen, we will be tops in Asia and some day be able to compete in the olympics i hope..

King CaluchaParticipantFans are really crazy (in the good way) in Argentina… just like in a soccer match.

GrandmamaParticipantMy friend married a girl from Argentina, and she still has family there. They took a trip visit some of her relatives there, and he told me that Ginobili is Argentina’s most revered athlete, even greater than Messi. I found it hard to believe, is it true?

FreelanceScoutParticipantI talk to my Argentine friend both are really famous there but Messi is more popular because Soccer is ther National Sports. Manu is considered the best argentinian basketball player, Messi is more known worldwide

johnecoParticipantI’ve never been to the Philippines, but it’s possible you are the most basketball obsessed!
Even in the US, basketball is only the 3rd most popular sport (but rising).
In Europe the most basketball-crazy are Greece, Lithuania, and Serbia IMO. Soccer is probably more popular in all those countries, but by a smaller margin than in the other big basketball countries of Europe like Spain and Italy.
Is basketball actually the most popular sport in Phillipines?

MooooseParticipantGood to see some fellow Filipinos contributing in this site!
Philippines is a basketball crazy country. I would recommend reading Rafe Bartholomew’s book, Pacific Rims, as a starter to those who would like to know and why Pinoys just love basketball. It was an unbelieveable read, as the author tried and eventually had adapted the approach of the Pinoys on life and basketball.
Unlike in the United States and some other countries who have other major sports like football, rugby, baseball, etc. The Philippines only have one major sport in basketball. All others are considered minor. Boxing, billiards, and badminton seems to be in the same tier as football, though we are making an attempt to market football as the “should-be” sport of the Filipinos.
Some people think we are too far away from the Western world that we do not really know basketball aside from playing it. But we got resources, man. If I have some free time or let’s just say if I wanted to, i would stream NCAA games and even European basketball. I have watched and monitored prospects over the years through internet and printed publication. Some top prospects who were out of the NBA play here as imports and that is when I get to see them personally, like Nick Fazekas, Paul Harris, etc. even high school phenoms like Lenny Cooke.
Philippines will forever be a basketball country.
