Strengths: 6’9 athletic forward … Good strength level. Big frame. Very physical and plays well through contact. Very tough for players at this level to contain when he’s going full speed … Draws fouls at a good rate. Shot 4.8 free throws per game over the Under Armour Association … High level athlete. Well-coordinated and fluid. Runs the floor very well. Explosive and reliable finisher. Quick first step and second jump … Good hands … Good rebounder. Finished in the top five over the Under Armour Association with 8.4 per game. Read offensive rebounds very well. Tip slams impressive put backs that appear out of his area … Tied Anfernee Simons for highest scoring averaged with 20.4 points per game and had the highest field goal percentage shooting 63.6% from the floor over the Under Armour Association. Has some variety to his scoring. Can score in the post a little, can get to the rim, and shows some ability to shoot. Good rotation on jump shot. Shows a fade away in the post … Possesses a lot of natural ability and has a foundation for a well-rounded game for being so raw in development … Has the tools to guard multiple positions. Averaged 1.8 steals per game over the Under Armour Association … Has a decent handle for someone his size. Can push the ball up the floor … Willing screener. Good roll man off the pick …
Weaknesses: Doesn’t have great length relative to height with a 6’10 wingspan and 8’9.5 standing reach … Doesn’t always get in a defensive stance when defending the perimeter. Leaves his feet at unnecessary times on defense. Gets out of position … Could work harder to get open … Can do a bit of everything but doesn’t excel in any area outside of his natural ability at this stage. Post-game is raw. Needs a more polished half court offensive game. Most of his points comes from simply catching and finishing … Doesn’t have a consistent jump shot and has limited scoring range. Good at drawing fouls but doesn’t convert free throws at a high rate. Only shot 50% from the free throw line over the Under Armour Association … Doesn’t show any playmaking ability or court vision. Turnover prone … Doesn’t produce consistently … Older for his class, will turn 20 before he plays a game in college …
Outlook: Kansas commit … Originally playing for Montverde Academy, De Sousa transferred to IMG Academy after his sophomore year. Although raw, de Sousa shows good long-term potential … Split time over the summer between E1T1 Elite (Nike EYBL) and Florida Vipers (Under Armour Association). Thrived on the UAA but underwhelmed on the Nike EYBL …
